I became a math major because I couldn't imagine school without doing mathematics. I've worked with students who feel exactly the opposite: they can't imagine enjoying school when "doing" mathematics is part of the equation. In my eight years of teaching (Pre-algebra through Precalculus) and 16 years of tutoring (Pre-algebra through Calculus as well as Integrated Math 1-3 as part of the Common Core Curriculum), I've discovered that many students who just didn't "get math," achieved understan... I first began tutoring in order to help prepare high school students for the SAT. This experience extends to preparation for the PSAT as well. I have an Undergraduate degree in Engineering and 2 Masters degrees in the subjects of Electrical Engineering and Statistics from Stanford University and Yale University respectively. I believe the most salient part to being a great tutor is patience and understanding. There is no subject too difficult to grasp if explained clearly and well in an understanding manner. That was my most important takeaway of my stint as a Teaching Assistant and Student at both Stanford and Yale. It requires har... [more]
