I have tutored students individually and taught classes to prepare them for college entrance exams, including SAT and PSAT, for over 15 years, both privately and for the Princeton Review. I truly enjoy and have been fortunate to have helped each student gain confidence in taking the PSAT, improve their scores, and in doing so prepare for the SAT, potentially qualify for National Merit awards and meet their goals. I have tutored students at all levels and all abilities, from struggling to gifted, as well as those with special needs. I have worked with students accepted to MIT, Wellesley, UC Ber [more]
I have many years of experience working with students preparing for the PSAT, both privately and within my reading classes. I work on strengthening skills, anticipating the kinds of questions that will be asked and practicing test taking techniques. As a diagnostician I am able to analyze what gets in the way and use student strengths to compensate for learning challenges. I refine reading comprehension by emphasizing the ways information is organized, by the importance of language that signals relationship of ideas within a passage and by understanding unfamiliar vocabulary from context. For PSAT prep, I help students understand exactly what will be on the test, and I work with them on strategies for each section of the test. I am able to work with students, whether they are just taking the PSAT as a "test run" for the SAT or whether they are taking it in hopes of winning a National Merit scholarship. I am a Dartmouth College grad and current MBA student with 17 years of professional tutoring experience and outstanding student results. I've helped coach students to 300+ point improvements on the SAT, 5+ point improvements on the ACT and 25%+ improvements on the SSAT and ISEE. [more]
I am a state certified Biology teacher who has had over a year of experience teaching Biology at the high school level. I graduated with a Master in the Arts of Teaching from Brandeis University with a focus in secondary Biology. During my time in graduate school, I learned to develop my own lesson plans that engaged students' curiosity and had them asking questions about the material that helped to deepen their understanding. I also performed a shorter practicum in graduate school working wi... [more]
I hope you're having a wonderful day. My days are spent exploring the culmination of human knowledge; so I'm always having a good day. I also enjoy riding my bicycle every day. I bring up the bicycle because it does limit my travel radius. I regularly meet people at libraries and cafes in Boston, Lexington, Brighton, Watertown, and Cambridge. I am open to biking distances less than 10 miles from The Loading Dock in Belmont. In the last couple years, I've focused on tutoring college-level Py... [more]
The PSAT now includes the 2016 changes in the new SAT. Taking this year's PSAT is an excellent way to identify how well prepared you are for the new SAT, while also allowing you to potentially qualify for a National Merit Scholarship. I have done an extensive study of these revisions, tutored many students successfully in dealing with them, and would be pleased to help you do well. I can teach you skills that will be a great help for the SAT and the rest of your life. I was a National Merit Scholar when there were very few chosen, and I appreciate how valuable that accomplishment was for open [more]
The PSAT is given to high school in October of their junior year. Most parents focus on getting their children prepared for the SAT and/or ACT, but they ignore the PSAT/NMSQT. That is a huge mistake. The PSAT/NMSQT is a critically important part of the college search process. Colleges use the scores and information your student provides on the PSAT/NMSQT to begin recruiting you. It also places you in serious contention for scholarship money from the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test and other associated programs. The PSAT/NMSQT is similar to the SAT ? only shorter.
