I prepared students for the NYS Regents examinations in Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry, and in Earth Science, Living Environment, Chemistry, and Physics. Having been a NYS educator my whole life, and having attended public schools in NYS, I am very familiar with the NYS Regents format, content, and overall strategies in preparing students for the math and sciences. My name is Nick P. I am a math and science teacher / mentor aiding students in the areas of mathematics and science. I began my teaching path in the winter of 2002 when I began working with the Metropolitan Center for Urban [more]

Many of the subjects I teach at the high-school level are within the framework of a regents curriculum. In many cases the expectations are relatively well defined and the assessments rather predictable. With the implementation of the common core in New York, standards and assessments are changing and educators are transforming their lessons accordingly. My methods have helped students achieve success in both the old and new formats. I am a math and science tutor with a high rate of success in improving my students' academic performance. I have a fresh, reliable approach to math and science edu [more]

I have accumulated two binders full of archived Regents examinations, one binder for mathematics and the other for the sciences and history. They deserve at least a booklet of commentary, but here are a few thoughts. Integrated Algebra: a pleasant romp through beginning high school algebra. Geometry: previously also a pleasant romp, but now exhibiting a tendency towards obfuscation, that is, stuffing twice as much information into a problem as will be needed to solve it and so imposing another sort of burden on the test-taker. Nevertheless, quite consistent over the past few years in th [more]

I have had success bringing students to a higher level in their understanding. My Regents specialties are the Algebra, Geometry, American History and English exams. My emphasis is preparing for the exam by studying at least the last six exams, looking for the similarities that always exist. It the student needs to 'brush up' on a certain topic, we address the need. As recently as 6/17, I have assisted 70's students prepare and receive 90's on their Regents exam. I am NYS Mathematics (7-12), Business Education (1-12) and Social Studies (7-12) certified. I have taught these subjects at the [more]

I have 8 years of high school English teaching experience, which includes working to prepare students for the English Regents exam. I take part in grading the English Regents exam each year, so I have a close understanding of how students best succeed on the test. I have direct experience with Regents test prep through planning lessons and assignments in my classes that develop the skills needed to excel on the exam. Before I became a teacher more than a decade ago, I was an award-winning music journalist, editor, and author of books on a wide array of subjects. As a teacher, I have worked in [more]

I have been teaching and tutoring Algebra 1 and Common Core Algebra 1 at the high school level for 15 years. For the past 4 years, my students have achieved a 100% pass rate on the Regents state exams in Common Core Algebra 1. The state has rated me ?highly effective? as a math teacher. After retiring as a NASA Aerospace Engineer, I have enjoyed a fifteen year encore career teaching math in a five star rated blue ribbon high school in New York City. Although teaching has been a departure from my engineering career, it has been extremely rewarding. For four consecutive years, I have attaine [more]

The Regents are standardized tests given in the state of New York in an effort to accurately compare students across many different school districts. A certain number of passed Regents are necessary in order to graduate high school, and the test grades can be submitted to many New York colleges and universities in tandem with your student's college application. I can tutor the Regents (and common core regents) for the following subjects: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Chemistry, and Physics. I have four years' experience as a full time tutor and I have become well versed in standardized tes [more]

At the end of the year, students are under much pressure, and reviewing the content of an entire year of school can be daunting. Furthermore, weak areas when they were first covered won't get much easier without targeted help. I can explain concepts in a way that is easy to understand and easy to remember, helping students make quick progress. Often small clarifications, or just being shown something in a different way, can help greatly. With a strong record of tutoring success in Algebra 1, Algebra 2 (with Trig), Geometry and Chemistry, I can help students successfully prepare for these [more]

I have been teaching Regents level courses for the past 3 years. I have experience teaching US History and Global Studies. I have graded the January, August, and June administrations of the NYS regents in Global History as well as the US history test since the Fall of 2006. With a population of 1200, I grade roughly 300 tests per subject, per summer, and around 50 per alternate administration. As a teacher in a local high school for the past 10 years, an instructor at another high school's summer program for 3 years, and as an independent tutor, I've met and worked with a wide array of student personalities and ability levels. For each of my 10 years teaching in Putnam County NY, I have added new classes to the [more]
