My major course of study in college was history, not mathematics. However, unlike most students who majored in the humanities, I have always loved math. In high school,I received high grades in my math courses, and scored a 640 on the math section of the SAT exam. I therefore decided to take Differential Calculus at SUNY at Buffalo, despite my major and got an A. Thus, I am one of those rare ducks in the humanities, a writer who really like math. When I took the test to qualify for teaching SAT math, I scored 100%. I enjoy math immensely because it makes me think logically to solve problems, [more]

Recently I worked over the phone with a student going over numerous SAT math questions. This process went very well. I have an excellent understanding of this level of math. I taught using a copy of The Official SAT Study Guide 2nd Edition by CollegeBoard. Although I was a meteorologist for 40 years I always loved math more than anything and always wanted to teach students who found math a challenge or difficult. I have had almost 5 years of experience tutoring math including algebra, geometry, trig, SAT Math and GED math. I have helped students understand and have found it more rewarding [more]

Math is my specialty of course, but I don't fit the mold as a typical engineer as I enjoy interacting with people too. Tutoring experience? Well...besides the hours on wyzant tutoring mostly algebra and trigonometry I have previously volunteered to teach at engineering outreach events at the Buffalo Museum of Sci... [more]

I've done an exhaustive study of SAT Math, including the new SAT Math setup, as well as the various test prep books ? which has been very revealing. And I?ve developed various techniques, a few of which aren?t to be found in print anywhere, for getting right answers by any means possible, including exploiting unintentional weaknesses in some problems. My teaching and tutoring are very much student-centered. Over the years I have developed dozens of highly original teaching/learning materials, often prompted by specific situations, some of which have been published and/or presented at conferen [more]
