When I began tutoring a few years ago, I firmly believed that anyone could do well in mathematics, all the way through Calculus, provided you are relatively fluent in a few formulas and make time for regular problem sets. My experience over that time has only confirmed my suspicions, and its has been a great pleasure to work with many of my students. I have always found joy in getting to the point of a big concept and keeping the focus on the purposeful real-world applications that many of ... [more]

The key to studying for the SAT Math section is to get an SAT practice book and work on as many problems as possible. Those practice books contain the right mix of geometry, algebra, probability, etc. I usually work through such books with my SAT math students, giving them supplemental information in those areas where they need extra help. I have over 30 years of experience as a tutor and lecturer in mathematics and physics, both before and after I completed my physics & biology BA at UC Berkeley and my physics PhD at the University of Illinois. I am available for tutoring at middle school, [more]

SAT math is hard. And yet so much of it depends on what I call ?intuitive math? and having good ?mathematical radar.? There are many tutors who can teach the logical operations of mathematics. But for what it?s worth, any textbook or test prep book can teach these as well! I aim to be one of the few teachers/tutors of adolescent students who recognizes that most students have not automated critical basic skills; I have tutored many students scoring above 600 in math who are slow and inaccurate in basic multiplication of single-digit numbers, or subtraction of two-digit numbers, for example [more]

For over two years, I've been helping students achieve the scores they need to get into their dream schools. Test prep can be stressful for students and families, so I always bring patience and enthusiasm to each session, as well as the proven techniques that I've used to help dozens of students significantly improve their performance. Striving for an top-notch test score, or mastering math and physics classes, can be daunting and frustrating. Sometimes a teacher doesn?t explain the material well, or abstract concepts don?t quite click. That?s why I bring patience and a positive attitude to my [more]

Hello, I'm Isabel! I'm a college undergraduate student at the University of San Francisco, studying computer science and physics. I tutored both middle school and high school students throughout my years in high school, in all levels of math from Pre-Algebra to AP Calculus. I was also a peer tutor for a Pre-Calculus class my senior year, and provided extra help for students in the class, answering questions and teaching on days the teacher was absent. Last semester I was a volunteer with an o... [more]

Hi I?m Gordon! I specialize in test prep and subjects related to technical fields. Math, SAT, and Computer Programming are my most taught subjects, though my interests and skills have led me to help students with lessons ranging from Card Magic to Essay Writing. I started tutoring ever since I was in high school, helping fellow classmates or underclassmen. Back then, tutoring sessions were conducted both in small group and one-on-one settings. Now, with over 7 years of experience working w... [more]

I received 800 on the SAT reasoning math in 10/10. (I challenged myself to not use a calculator on it.) I received 800 on the subject math level 2 in 6/11. (I chose to not challenge myself in that way on this.) As a math major preparing to be a teacher, I am an experienced and effective tutor. I enjoy tutoring in all math subjects to calculus II (including statistics). Also physics in mechanics and all SAT Math preparation. I placed 17th (7-way tie) of over 2000 students nationally in the AMATYC math contest in Spring '12. Also 13th (5-way tie) in Spring '11 and 20th in Fall '11 + Spring '12 s [more]
