Although my graduate education focused on languages and literature, I attended a magnet school for math, science, and technology in high school. The school drew a handful of students from each of six surrounding school districts on the basis of ability and achievement and offered a rigorous math and science curriculum. More importantly, I am an experienced educator and have never scored below the 99th percentile on a standardized exam.
