Preparing for the Math SAT test requires specific knowledge not only of the mathematics content involved but also on the type of questions that will be asked. I am very familiar with the structure of the math sections of the test as well as the type of questions in it. This allows me to set up the right strategies to attack questions and/or math problems from a time-efficiency stand point. I am fully knowledgeable and confident that I can successfully tutor all the mathematics areas of the SAT test (Pre-algebra, Algebra I, Special math problems, Geometry, and Algebra 2). "The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled." - Plutarch One of the greatest gifts that someone can give to someone else is time. My belief system when tutoring students is to ensure that I give each person the time to utilize their cognitive ability to develop solutions. Coupled with activating prior knowledge, building upon their foundational skill set as well as developing their confidence level with the material allows me to have a high success rate with my stude... I've worked with scores of students (actually, hundreds is probably more accurate) on their test prep. For math, there are usually a couple of areas they're less than completely confident about, but it's almost always a question of recognizing what type of problem it is, and therefore what tool to pull out of the massive math toolbox. I'm good at helping students recognize the problems and get comfortable with a more limited number of tools that will work for almost all the math questions they'll encounter, and especially find the shortcuts that will get them there with the least work (and thu [more]

SAT Math test prep is as much about the math as it is critical thinking skills and being able to read a question for the underlying meaning. As a tutor with a documented background in Mathematics, Science, Engineering, and Research who has taken the exam multiple times, I help students approach problems from the way that makes the most sense to them. After they have grasped the technicalities of the problem solution, we can dive deeper to explore the theory, applications, and other ways the same ?question? might appear in the future. [more]
