Both the ACT and SAT are used by colleges and universities as one of many factors when a student is being considered for admission. Therefore, they should not be taken lightly and a preparation regimen can help in elevating scores. I have assisted many students with college entrance exams, and can offer insight into the key components of the test to include commonly tested items and concepts. With students I review test-taking strategies as well as expand or help reinforce the algebra or geometry skills needed to solve problems. [more]

Whenever I am working with a student, I strive to make learning easy and fun, and above all to explain concepts in ways that you can relate to. Not everyone learns the same way and that is okay! whether you or your student needs to clarify concepts or in depth work to bring them up to speed, my teaching style is tailored to each individual, using a pace that is appropriate. I strive to help students understand the core concepts and building blocks necessary to succeed not only in their curr... [more]

I have studied the new version of this test ever since it came out and have worked with many students, helping them master this section. I was only 1 class short of a math minor, so I have a deep knowledge of difficult math. Teaching and tutoring have always been things that I enjoy. Even when I studied for my own classes, I would always study in groups and would help teach others concepts I had already cemented in my brain. My first official teaching position was as a Teacher's Assistant at Kalamazoo College in General Chemistry my senior year at Kalamazoo College. I was given a group of 10 s [more]

I am a high school math teacher who has taught 7-12th grades in subjects including: 7th and 8th grade math, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Math 1-3 (common core), AP Statistics. I also am very familiar with NC Math 1 EOC content and NC Final Exams for Math 2 and 3. In the classroom and in my tutoring sessions I look to help students not "just learn material for the test or pass the course", rather I try to induce quicker arithmetic and critical thinking strategies that give students the abilit... I scored 620 on the math portion of the SAT when I took it 35 years ago. My father was a guidance counselor at Douglas Byrd High School, Fayetteville, NC, and he was in charge of administering the SAT. During college, I often worked as a proctor for him. At the end of the day we were required to burn all used copies of the test, but he would often let me practice test with a copy just before burning it. Years later as the Co-ordinator of a Curriculum Center in West Africa, I was given several SAT tests to administer and when I retook the math test while timed, I scored over 700.
