I have 21 years of experience teaching/tutoring math, elementary arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, and trigonometry. Science experience in physics and biology. My desire is to have students "own" the material. I ask questions to guide them through the problem solving process until they can do it independently. I have also taught classes in public speaking and coached speech and debate. We focus on organizing your thoughts, putting them in an outline, and formatting a... [more]

I have helped multiple students to increase their confidence and their scores when taking the SAT. Hello, my name is Chris. A year ago I graduated from Hope College, Holland, MI with a double major in electrical engineering and sociology as well as a minor in mathematics. Tutoring has always been very fulfilling for me and I have worked as a math tutor, both privately and in the employ of Hope College, for over six years. Pursuing my engineering major and mathematics minor has provided me with the technical skill necessary for effective tutoring. Additionally, my experience working with s... [more]

Friendly, experienced tutor would be honored to assist in your educational goals. Familiar with all aspects of math, including college entrance examinations. Vast knowledge of college entrance requirements. Focus on needs and personalities of individual students rather than a rigid teaching method. Strongly believe that each and every student can learn math. Problem solving techniques and seeing the big picture are stressed. There are no short cuts or magic wands, but every student hold... I am Illinois certified middle school math teacher at Morgan Park Academy, a private school on the south side of Chicago. I love teaching young people not only the step by step processes of solving math problems, but also the concepts behind these processes. I'm passionate about what I do and live for those a-ha moments with my students. Seeing a student finally understand a difficult concept and develop confidence in their abilities is a thrill that I always look forward to. I have taught ... [more]

A few hours per week of one-to-one interaction can do wonders for your understanding of difficult subjects. I teach math (pre-algebra through calculus and statistics) and science, specializing in AP and college-level courses. We'll either work with the texts and assignments from your class, or with books directed towards the standardized test you plan to ace. I can also help with term papers, lab reports, essays, scholarship/fellowship applications, and other writing assignments -- everyth... [more]

Hi! I'm Travis, and I'm currently an undergraduate at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. I plan on majoring in Mathematics with a minor in Music (I play clarinet). I come from an very small town in the eastern part of the state of Washington. I'm really into mathematics, but that's probably clear from my choice of major. In high school, I took AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics and earned a perfect score on both exams; I scored a 35 on the ACT Math section and a perfect 800 on the Mat... [more]

The SAT tends to pose a challenge to my students in one of two ways. Either they feel un-prepared in the content, in which case we dive into why Math functions until the feel prepared, or they have a hard time understand word problems. In the case of the latter, we tend to focus on honing in to what the questions are asking as well as what information they are providing. Beyond this, I also work with students on test-taking strategies, helping them feel secure in their preparedness. My love for teaching stems from a long line of teachers, dating all the way back to my grandparents. I've had th [more]

I love helping students understand their subjects! Sometimes that understanding is gained through real world examples, other times, it comes by learning and practicing the steps, in order. I look forward to listening to your concerns, evaluating where you are as a student, and helping you get a breakthrough in understanding. Sometimes the answer is as simple as encouraging you and helping you destroy the 'I'm not good at this' barrier! I have experience in quite a few different arenas, inc... [more]

I've taught college level calculus and statistics. I've also taught high school beginning Algebra and geometry. Hi, I'm described as a good "explainer" by friends and family. I know math; I know the math that you are studying; and I know how the math you learned before connects to today's lesson. Teaching in public school, I am used to breaking down all subjects (including calculus) into their most basic parts. Many times, math looks hard because all of the little tricks and simplifications that a teacher can take when they know math. I may know that the variable "x" is different fro [more]
