After graduating from UC Berkeley, I?ve worked as a Mechanical Engineer for 20 years. On my job I?ve always loved opportunities to use math and science calculations. Usually I?m the best in the office at it. I?ve only helped my own high school children and work colleagues. I?m looking forward to trying Wyzant as a career tutor. I?ve used math on the job for 20 years. Even among engineers I?m one of the few who understand it so I explain and teach often. I have 20 years of experien... [more]

I tested out of General Chemistry and received a 4 on the AP chemistry test as a Junior. I would like to be a tutor because I find working one-on-one with someone is the best way to learn difficult material. I am a very patient teacher and I also know how difficult a subject is by just reading the book by yourself. I made the dean's list in GRCC before I transferred to the University of Michigan. I've taken Organic Chemistry courses and also passed out of General Chemistry courses as well. ... [more]

I have experience tutoring students for ACT and SAT with a national company. I use the Barron's book for the national tests. In my opinion it is the most difficult and if a student does well with Barron's then the regular test should be much easier. I believe that math is fun and that overcoming many students' phobia about math is the key to success. Students need earned success in order to start approaching math in a positive and confident manner. My rates are low because I believe every student should have access to a tutor regardless of income. [more]

I have been tutoring independently since graduating high school. In high school, I was selected twice to teach the class when the teacher was unavailable. My best subject is Math. I was consistently at the top of my class in math in high school and college, achieving a 32 in math on my ACT and a composite score of 30. In 2010 I completed the application and training course with Kaplan premier tutoring and have been working with them since. My first student raised her ACT score by 4 points.... [more]

I have tutored since my sophomore year in high school and it has been 7 or so years since. I started tutoring and helping family friends' kids with time management and study skills. Then I started creating study guides and made a website for my friends for AP classes we were all in so that we could prepare for the AP exams in May. I began online tutoring as high school was ending and have tutored folks on CHEGG and on Google Hangouts on a myriad of subjects from the life sciences to ACT/SAT T... [more]

My teaching philosophy is to explain the content, give enough practice problems and quiz the student to reinforce key concepts. I believe in open communication and build confidence in student to ask questions as many time as he/she wishes. I never lose my temper while instructing and always try to explain material in multiple ways until my student becomes comfortable. ... [more]
