I teach because it allows me to share my love of learning. I'm most satisfied when I can awaken a new interest in a ?boring? subject or show a student a new way of looking at a problem. I get excited when students tell me that they see connections that weren't there before or that they finally understand something that has always baffled them. I try to bring passion to everything I teach, and I work hard to push my students to their highest potential. I'm an English and History specialist wi... [more]

With more than 8 years as an SAT Tutor, I have tutored many a student to higher math scores, including several to a 98+%ile. The key to excelling in SAT Math is to properly translate the word problems to math equations, and make sure all the information in a question is accounted for. Many errors in math are caused by simple misinterpretations of the problem or by missing basic calculations (i.e. forgetting a negative), so much of my work involves practicing simple yet effective habits to avoid silly mistakes. In high school, I received 800 on the SAT math section, 800 on the SAT II Math 2 subject test, 36 on the ACT math section, and 5 on the AP Calculus BC test. Though it might seem unusual for a humanities major, I enjoy math and have continued my studies at the college level (multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and some discrete math). Tutoring in math is a special treat for me, and I love the opportunity to work with students of all comfort levels. I'm Joule! I recently graduated from Harvard, where I earned an honors degree in history, was accepted into Phi Beta Kappa as a junior, and rece [more]

Hi, thank you for visiting my page. Worked as a Pre-Calculus and Calculus teacher with strong credentialing, I have over 5 years of classroom experience. Outside the classroom, I have garnered over 10 years of tutoring experience, specializing in middle school and high school math. I am extremely passionate about Math education and I want all students to see that Math can be more than just memorizing and regurgitating. I am quick to ensure my students throw away their "I am bad at math" min... [more]

Of all the subjects I tutor, SAT math is my specialty. I have helped almost 100 students over the years raise their score, sometimes by 100s of points. Having gotten perfect scores of 800 on practice tests myself I can transfer that know-how to your child and uncover what words or concepts they don't understand which would block them from full certainty. I greatly enjoy seeing my students discover the solution for themselves rather than spoon-feeding them. I look forward to helping your student. [more]

I personally scored an 800 on the NEW SAT math section (May of 2016), and have a full and complete understanding of all the questions types. I have helped dozens of students prepare for the SAT, both on a private basis as well as with Kaplan. My test prep curriculum centers around three basic principles: (1) diligent and timed practice, (2) constant review of problems answered incorrectly, and (3) thorough understanding of all tested concepts. I love helping kids master the SAT, and truly enjoy sharing my expertise. Additionally, I have a top rated video course for the SAT Math section. [more]

Hi! I'm Vincent, a recent graduate of Harvard University who moved to Los Angeles a few months ago. I've had lots of experience tutoring a wide variety of math subjects. I've done in-home tutoring in Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus. Not only that, but I've worked professionally as a group tutor for first-year college Physics. Prior to getting my graduate degree at Harvard, I attended Pomona College in Claremont, CA, where I earned a 3.8 GPA. While at Pomona I was able to m... [more]

Unlike my classmates who left for the defense industry, I dreamed to be a physics professor. I earned a scholarship to graduate school and hoped to be a better university teacher than those that I had. But the physicists seemed to invest more in papers and journals than in their students. I exited the ivory tower for Shanghai where I would teach and where I would learn more than I had ever before. I gravitated toward our school's most professional teachers - now my closest mentors and friend... [more]

Hi everyone, my background in tutoring stems from work I did with the LA Youth crisis center where I volunteered tutoring the group of teens that were living there. The structure there had a bit of a classroom feel with an effort to understand each students needs. My personal style is to have some structured lessons but maintain a very student centered approach to make sure they are getting the information and the help required. I have a bachelor's degree from UC Davis in engineering and took... [more]

Currently finishing up on my PhD at UCLA in plasma physics, I love being able to give back some of my knowledge by helping out students with math/physics coursework. I have tutored throughout my undergraduate and graduate education, and have been a TA for introductory undergraduate physics courses. I understand that many become discouraged from continuing in physics/math because they are disillusioned with the coursework, so I work on approaching problems from different methods in order to fi...
