I love to see a person light up when they finally understand that concept that has been a stumbling block for them. In my years of teaching in public and private schools (K-8), in my years at home as a mom, and through all the rest of the time I've spent working, it has given me great joy to be able to explain the "why" to people so they can "get it", whether I'm teaching kids or adults. I've spent about 5 years teaching in the classroom: several years as a substitute covering everything i... [more]

Math is all about understanding the concepts. Without understanding, it can seem like a haze of complex letters and numbers, but once the ideas are grasped my experience is that Math is beautiful and fun! SAT Math is no different. I enjoy sitting down with a student, understanding where they are coming from, and helping them to grasp the concepts behind the questions. That way, when they are sitting in the exam they have the tools to answer the questions and obtain the best grade. Originally from England, I graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in Mathematics. As a tutor I enjoy m [more]

I've been a tutor for three years. I got my start tutoring at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, OR, where I worked in the tutoring center helping students with math, physics, chemistry, and writing. During my time at Chemeketa, I took a series of extra classes for tutors, overseen by the Chemeketa Tutoring Department and the College Learning and Reading Association, that certified me as a Master Tutor. I transferred from Chemeketa after getting my AA and attended UC Berkeley with a major ... [more]

I specialize in Algebra because it has the greatest need. Students either need to pass it to graduate or need to master it so they can move onto Calculus. "Math is the weightlifting for the mind. The better you are at math, the easier it is to learn everything else." Classes, labs, jobs, clubs, teams, and social life all eat into the student's time for study so it is vital to get the most out of those few hours. My specialty is teaching efficient and effective learning techniques so that... [more]

The SAT math test is actually a combination of three sections: one 25 minute section with 18 problems, one 25 min. section with 20 problems and one 20 minute section with 16 problems. There is no calculator permitted and questions focus mainly on arithmetic, algebra and geometry. Students will need to take plenty of practice tests under testing conditions in order to do their best on the real thing. Practice not only makes perfect (revealing consistently missed problems) but also reduces stress on test-day ("yeah, yeah, I know the drill!"). Students whom I tutor will receive the best prepa [more]

I graduated from the University of the Pacific with a B.S. in Biochemistry and dual degree PharmD/MBA. While I was in school I was a tutor for both organic chemistry and general chemistry courses for college students. I am highly motivated in helping students get ahead in their learning and getting students to learn to the best of their ability. I am fun and engaging and love to teach. Math and science are my expertise and I have scored perfect 800 in SAT II & SAT I Math. Teaching is a... [more]
