With more than 8 years as an SAT Tutor, I have tutored many a student to higher math scores, including several to a 98+%ile. The key to excelling in SAT Math is to properly translate the word problems to math equations, and make sure all the information in a question is accounted for. Many errors in math are caused by simple misinterpretations of the problem or by missing basic calculations (i.e. forgetting a negative), so much of my work involves practicing simple yet effective habits to avoid silly mistakes. Hi! I have many years of tutoring experience for all grade levels. The bad news is that most students struggle with Math. The good news is that, not only is it my favorite subject but I also have a teaching credential in Math that allows me to teach Math for grades K-12! My students find me approachable and feel comfortable to ask me questions on their homework. I also have patience with students and I take my time explaining concepts to them. I'm happy to say that I have helped many i... [more]

Of all the subjects I tutor, SAT math is my specialty. I have helped almost 100 students over the years raise their score, sometimes by 100s of points. Having gotten perfect scores of 800 on practice tests myself I can transfer that know-how to your child and uncover what words or concepts they don't understand which would block them from full certainty. I greatly enjoy seeing my students discover the solution for themselves rather than spoon-feeding them. I look forward to helping your student. [more]

Hello! I have five years of experience tutoring children of all academic levels from Pre-K through Graduate School and formerly served as the director of a tutoring center, a position that I left in 2014 to return to the teaching that I love. My approach with SAT math is a combination of clarification, refreshment, and saturation. The SAT's, cover a wide breadth of mathematical knowledge. I help to fill in the gaps that students have in any of the subjects. Along with reeducating students in the subjects, I strongly encourage a lot of practice with SAT questions; familiarity with the style of questions that can appear on the test will give students a great advantage when they finally approach the exam. With over 15 years of tutoring experience and having graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Applied Mathematics from UCLA, I [more]

Hi there. I am the classic example of a teacher who just loves to teach. Although I am new to Wyzant, I have been teaching for many years. I have 26 years' experience in SAT and ACT prep for high school students. I can work with students who only need a little bit of fine tuning, or students who need a full program covering all aspects of the test from A-Z. I pride myself on being skilled at diagnosing exactly what students need to improve their scores. I don't want to waste students' t... [more]

It may seem strange to begin with a statistic, but I trust you will agree it's not wholly inappropriate. During the 2009-2010 school year, my 11 AP Chemistry students had a 100% pass rate with the following score distribution: Seven of them scored a 5, three scored a 4, and one scored a 3. The high scores are greater than three times the national average. What makes this even more impressive is that I only saw my students an average of 2.5 times per week (2 days one week, 3 days the next, alt... [more]

My name is Andy, and I love math. I hold a BS and MS from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In high school, I competed in various prestigious math and science competitions. I have gotten 800s in SAT math I and II. Learn from the best! I am patient and have great ability to make difficult concepts easy to understand. Over the years I have developed various techniques on how to solve problems very quickly and accurately. When looking at a problem, there may be multiple ways to solve... [more]

Hi everyone, my background in tutoring stems from work I did with the LA Youth crisis center where I volunteered tutoring the group of teens that were living there. The structure there had a bit of a classroom feel with an effort to understand each students needs. My personal style is to have some structured lessons but maintain a very student centered approach to make sure they are getting the information and the help required. I have a bachelor's degree from UC Davis in engineering and took... [more]

No charge on your session unless you are fully satisfied. Valedictorian St. Bonaventure High School. BS in Physics from USC. Master's in Physics from Pitt. Self educated in Writing and Philosophy. I have 5 years of experience teaching college classes and tutoring on all levels of math, science and writing. My top priority is to give students a conceptual understanding of the material (as opposed to rote memorization). I do this by asking the student questions to gauge their understand... [more]
