I have tutored SAT math for about five years now. In my opinion, there are two methods that you need to have practice with in order to succeed at taking the SAT test. The first is having a solid understanding of Mathematics. Graduating with a degree in Mathematics has greatly helped me in this area. The second is the strategy behind taking the SAT. I have done independent research on SAT strategy as well as taken a day long course by the company "2400" which has greatly increased my knowledge in how the SAT works. [more]

I earned 730/800 (missed two questions) on the most recent version of SAT Math. Taken three times (each a different version). Above 90th percentile every time. Summary: I enjoy helping others succeed (more than myself at times). Despite missing just two questions on the SAT, I decided to enlist in Navy. They tried to convince me to be a nuclear technician but I like myself radiation free - thank you very much. Living the dream in the Navy, and a lot of it was training and helping others. Someone must have noticed I liked it and didn't stink too bad, because I was asked (okay, told) to go [more]

My name is Nikki and I graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in mathematics. I became a teacher because of my love for the subject. I have been teaching for 16 years because of my love for my students. I also have a Master?s degree in Information Systems and enjoy incorporating technology in instructing. I do not feel that the technology should replace or hinder a student?s ability to learn and understand the process. I feel that learning math is like learning a sport or playing an... [more]

Hello! I am a Georgia Tech college graduate looking to help YOU with your math skills. I have a deep love for math and teaching others how easy math can be. As a Georgia Tech graduate I have taken several courses in higher mathematics - Calculus, Linear Algebra, Statistics, Probability, but really enjoy teaching lower levels of math. I enjoy working with kids from elementary to high school students and above and really helping my students learn how to grasp different math concepts with eas... [more]

As a recipient of a perfect 800 score on the math SAT back in the day, I know what it takes to get through this type of high-stress test. I can help you review the key concepts including ratios, probability, geometry and graphs, as well as help with test-taking strategy, such how to make best use of your time and how to make better guesses when that's necessary. I have worked with many students, and typically focus on helping students achieve about 100 point improvements in their math score, from about 600, to 700 or better. You may see other tutors promise more, but they are not the ones t [more]

I have tutored for many years. My goal is to break any subject into pieces a student is able to digest. I believe in having fun in what I do and I hope the student will have fun while learning. Let us face it - most math teachers try to make the subject harder than it is. Mathematics has plenty of patterns. My goal is to help the student find the pattern easy for him/her and this will give the student an advantage in later studies. I am a relaxed person, but I have an excitement for M... [more]

While teaching high school math I also helped students prepare for the SAT. Not only will you learn the content but also useful test taking strategies. These skills will guarantee a higher score on the SAT. I am VA, PA, and NC certified to teach Mathematics grades 6-12. I currently teach Algebra 2/Trig and Algebra 1 at a local high school in Virginia Beach. Other subjects I have taught include Calculus, Statistics, Function and Data Analysis, Trigonometry, Algebra 2 Honors, Geometry Honors, and Pre-Algebra. As a result of my college/work experience, I use research-based teaching and learning [more]

The class is designed to prepare students to attack the math sections of the SAT with confidence. The course guides the student to review, expand, and utilize their understanding of high school level math from a more intuitive perspective which is distinctive to the design of SAT problems. This is the key to higher SAT scores. Don't struggle through or "just get by" another school year or college semester. Together we can take your skills to the next level. My style is simple. I use technology, common sense, practical examples, humor, and patience with a "no quit" attitude. I believe in the [more]

I retired from teaching after being a Middle School mathematics teacher for 17 years. Currently, I work at ODU helping undergraduates become math and science teachers. While tutoring, I like to keep your student up to speed on the current skills being taught in class and then with the parents' guidance, either work ahead so they have a background on the material when it is introduced in class or review skills taught previously to ensure their math foundation is solid.... I have been very successful preparing many students for the SAT. The difficult sections for most applicants are the math and sentence completion sections. After giving a student a practice SAT to diagnose weak verbal and math skill areas, I focus on knowledge, test strategies to effectively problem-solve, speed, discipline and self-confidence. SAT math problems are posed at five levels of difficulty 1-5 (you see these numbers next to the test answers in the blue Official SAT Study Guide by collegeboard). For a test taker to score in the 500s on the math portion, he or she must have maste [more]
