Caring and Experience

I have tutored the SAT for over 20 years, as well as taught an SAT course at Worcester Academy and Newton Country Day School. I have taught all the levels of math included in the SAT, as well as AP Statistics, so can give students content tutoring in math. I have taken structured writing and reading courses at the Landmark School, so can give structure and clarity to the Reading Section and the optional essay. I have a long list of experience and will try to summarize it for you! I have taught in private schools in Massachusetts since graduating from Brown in 1978, with a 15 year hiatus in t [more]

English, Math, and Science - Grade School, High School, and College

I tutor both the SAT and ACT math sections. Personally, I think the ACT math section better covers real world expectations for most students - obviously math and physics students need more skills than the ACT covers, but not everyone in the world plans on being one of those two professionals. For the rest of us (even many scientists), aptitude on the ACT Math section correlates to success in college math and math-affiliated fields. The ACT is meatier, but the SAT is denser; there are fewer questions on the SAT Math, but they cover some higher level material you won't see on the ACT. Regardles [more]

Learning to reach your vision of success

Teaching has been a hidden passion for me. Unfortunately, I did not pursue the career and decided to follow the path of technology. I received my Bachelor's degree in Engineering along with both the Valedictorian and honors awards. However, I still wish to pursue the path in teaching. Thus, I decided on tutoring students instead, allowing me the flexibility to balance the schedule in between working on my main job and taking care of my family. Although I do not have formal training or a t... [more]

You don't have to be smart to get good grades, but it helps

Lately I have been having aspirations of trying my hand at teaching. My father was a teacher and everyone always says that we had the same qualities. So I figure hey anything he can do, I can do better. I have a bachelors degree in computer engineering from the University of Akron. As you may know engineering is mostly math, I think I may actually have a minor in mathematics but I never looked into it, so naturally math and sciences are my strong suite. But growing up I was a great writer eve... [more]
