Lower Elementary Subjects and Middle School ELA/Social Studies

I am a certified middle school teacher who happens to love history and other segments of social studies. It is my greatest passion to read of great people from the past and get entwined in their lives. I think they are as exciting as the latest best-selling novels. My other passion is traveling and seeing far away places. I just got back from Newport Rhode Island and the Boston Area. What better way to learn about the very beginnings of our country than to go there in person. I would love to share this passion with kids and hopefully they will get as excited about learning history and soc [more]

I love History!

I have been teaching Social Studies for more than ten years. I am certified in Middle School Social Studies in my state. I have also taught American History at the same level. I have been teaching for more than ten years, most of them within these two content areas. I have worked one-on-one with students struggling in other content areas, as well. I understand that kids sometimes cannot relate [more]

There Is No Such Thing as a Bad Student

I taught social studies for 3 years at an options high school where the students worked to earn their GED. The success rate for my students to actually earn their GED was 80%, 20% higher than the other English/social studies teachers. I start at my student's level and gradually work them up to a mutually agreed upon level of understanding. There are no bad students. The problem lies in the fact that often their teacher(s) have not figured out how to reach them. I am very good at helping my students learn how to succeed in this business of academics. They may not necessarily enjoy the process, [more]
