Math for Tweens. Homeschoolers Welcomed.

Study skills isn't an easy topic to define. There are high level ideas involved, but depending on the subject matter, there are different priorities. I see study skills as knowing yourself - strengths and weaknesses, knowing your time constraints, and understanding ways in which you best learn the subjects you're addressing. This is where I excel. In helping students understand these keys, we can construct and deconstruct material leading to a firm understanding. I also believe that memorization is an important tool. Study skills and learning require a variety of tools in the toolbox. [more]

Professional Musician, Vocalist, Tutor, Learning Coach and Encourager

Good study skills are extremely important for academic success. As a student, I maintained a 4.0+ average throughout High School, and over 3.9 average in college and graduate school. Mastering the information was important, but being organized and managing time effectively even more important. I've got experience tutoring people of all ages on many subjects, and look forward to working on these skills with motivated individuals. Experience: Michael graduated with honors after studying theory, composition, popular music and voice as an undergraduate student at Chapman University and as [more]

Learning specialist

I have an MA in teaching and am currently working on a certificate in educational therapy. I have also worked at private centers teaching executive functioning to students with learning disabilities. I made the transition to working one on one with students after years of working as a classroom teacher and feeling frustrated with the lack of individualized time there was to help my most struggling learners. For the last 3 years, I have been working on a post-master's certification in educational therapy and working with students one on one in private centers. I specialize in reading remediatio [more]

The first lesson I taught my students was to keep an assignment notebook and color-coded folders for each class. It only works if you actually practice it. Get a three-ring binder that you can take to each of your classes. Keep your important papers there as well as your class folders. Put your hand-outs in the folders before you have time to misplace them. This worked for most students, and it will for you if you work at it. After many years, I learned that stu [more]
