I have tutored students in TAKS math and science at all levels of MS and HS, from 6th grade mathematics and 8th grade science to Exit Level for both subjects. I have taught TAKS-driven courses in public high schools for both math and science, and have helped create intensive short courses to help students reach mastery of the TAKS test. As the TAKS phases out for the new STAAR testing, the high school seniors who still fall under the old TAKS guidelines require the attention to formula charts, understood knowledge, and testing procedures that my TAKS tutoring background provides. During my time in the Texas school system, I scored an 'Exemplary' on each TAKS test throughout my studies. I have since worked to further refine my own personal test-taking strategies, and integrate evidence-based techniques into my own and my students' study skills, test preparation, and test-taking. I have tutored students for a variety of tests including the SAT, the GED, the AVSAB, and the ACT. It is useful to have prepared study guides that explain in great detail how the test is structured and scored, as well as detailed guidance in each separate subject area. My students have all scored well. I have worked as a reading tutor for many years, having been certified in the Read Right program. I have worked with adult students seeking their GED certificate, ESL learners, teenagers seeking their GED certificate, and elementary students who are lagging in their reading. Half the TAKS battle is knowing the five representations of a function. The rest is just real-life applications and "math common sense" skills. Let's attack the TAKS together, you can do it! TUTORING Learning HOW you learn best is key to how you study. Are you an auditory, kinesthetic, tactile, or verbal learner? Are you a global or analytical thinker? How do you process information?
