I have been tutoring students since I was a student at Davidson College. This continued through my years as a graduate student at Duke University where I was part of the team that helped tutor student athletes. I am certified in Secondary Math in the state of Texas and have taught Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II and Math Models in the Irving ISD. In that capacity I worked with students who had a wide range of abilities in math, both the math-challenged and the proficient. In addition, I worked extensively with students to improve their testing strategies to help with the TAKS test and the SAT. [more]

I have tutored three of my children on TAKS exams since moving to Texas in 2007. Each of them received COMMENDED in two or more subjects. My focus is on the math portion of the exam, which is being replaced with the new STAAR exam. I have tutored hundreds of students in math, science, and engineering over the past 30 years. I worked in the BYU Math Lab to pay my way through college where I earned a Master of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering with a minor in mathematics. I have even published a book and software package used by several universities in numerical analysis an [more]

I taught in a Ft. Worth high school from 2000-2013. FWISD curriculum goals and strategies were tied to TAKS, then STAAR, for the entire time. It was incumbent on me as an educator to structure lessons to encompass these goals and assist my students in test mastery. Hello, I'm Joseph, and I would be honored to help you. There is nothing more important for a young person than to receive a solid educational foundation, and I hope to help you lay that foundation. I spent 13 years as a classroom teacher, 12 of them in a unique ESL school for teenage beginning English learners in Ft. Worth. I h [more]

I have worked with students in fourth through sixth grade in all subject areas for the past eight years. Each year I work with students on their test taking strategies and give them practice with released TAKS questions and other questions that have been developed that are in a similar TAKS format and challenge the students in the content area. I have had tremendous success with my students over the years and feel confident in working with the student to find ways to overcome their fears and anxiety around the test. [more]

I've tutored TAKS for several years. It requires algebra and geometry techniques in a straight forward manner, and is not as tricky as the ACT or SAT tests. I majored in engineering and minored in math. My career was in telecom/computers with extensive mathematical analytics. I tutor almost any college and high school math course. I get a thrill in watching the light turn on students' heads when they see how easy math can be once it's explained properly to them. I hear "My child has this or that learning problem..." but I've not met one yet that can't improve. I instill a lot of CONFIDEN [more]
