I'm a native Ohioan who went to Cornell University to pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering. I worked in engineering and business before getting into teaching. I've always loved Math and learning about HOW and WHY it is relevant and useful. Engineering allowed me to use math to solve real problems and understand how the laws of nature work. I'm an outdoors person and I love exploring nature. It's a beautiful thing [more]

My personal business philosophy is to help students not just to find the right answers but help to develop problem solving skills and the ability to use their resources effectively. This approach to tutoring does more than just prepare a student to take and pass a test, it prepares them to be successful wherever life takes them. One of the benefits of this philosophy is that students learn to work independently rather than becoming reliant on a tutor. This is particularly powerful when a p... [more]

Mechanics is a field in engineering which is essentially mathematics and physics applied to problems in the mechanics of engineering materials and structures. All of the engineering courses that I have taught rely heavily on trigonometry. Combined with geometry almost all engineering modeling requires knowledge of system geometry and the trigonometry used to quantify geometric relationships. I was also the engineering curricular lead in creating the mathematics course sequence for engineering students at OSU. [more]

As a non-mathematically inclined individual, my mathematical accomplishments can be likened to successfully running a marathon in an ill-fitting pair of ice skates on scorching asphalt. Because of my personal history with math, I can relate to the feelings of imbalance, confusion, awkwardness, insecurity, and frustration that other mathematically challenged individuals experience. I can envision the stumbling blocks they will likely encounter and can illuminate the path before anyone lands fa... [more]
