I'm an experienced teacher who loves helping students achieve their educational goals. I have a B.A. (History; Math), two M.A.'s (European History; History of Science, Medicine, & Technology), and a wide range of teaching: taught many different college history courses; high school math; junior high math and science; ESL in Taiwan; chess. Also have good standardized test scores (e.g., GRE 790V, 780M, 720A; "competitive" score on the NSA's Professional Qualifications T... [more]

I have been tutoring all high school and college math courses, and many science courses, for the past 20 years with students of all abilities, from those who have a phobia of math to those who are looking for a little edge to get them into a top-tier college/graduate school, including Trigonometry. I generally use the students' current knowledge and ask probing questions to get them to teach themselves the material and bring in experiences to facilitate learning (I find this Socratic method works best for retention), but, when needed, will lecture. I was a graduate student in mathematics at Caltech and a postdoc at Columbia University. I left academia to work in industry, but I enjoy teaching. I have written dozens of articles and a book on applying mathematics for general audiences. I'm working on a parent's guide to algebra and book on applying economics to improve environmentalism. I've tutored mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science, and programming since 2013 on other sites. My goal is to make the material make sen... [more]

Tutoring has been a passion for me for the last seven years. I first began tutoring in my final year of high school and seeing my student go from struggling to success was the best feeling I ever had. When I started my undergraduate studies in Mathematics, I was offered a job in the Center for Academic Development. While there, I tutored peers in math, was ranked in the top tutors for several semesters and was then selected for"The Most Outstanding Tutor" award which is give to the most quali... [more]

I graduated from high school as Valedictorian in 2004 and graduated with a B.S.E. in Biomedical Engineering in 2008. I love math, and can teach math at all levels up to Calculus III. This includes Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus I, II, and III. In my degree I had extensive experience using all levels of math, and I successfully tutored people in math throughout high school and college. I am also available to tutor science in the areas of biology and physiology. I have... [more]

Hello! I'm a Freshman in the Honors Program in Boston College's Lynch School of Education, and am double majoring in Secondary Education and Math. At Boston College, I am a member of the Screaming Eagle's Marching Band, the BC Symphonic Band, the BC Pep Band, and the Newton Volunteer Services Tutoring program for which I go to a local Newton elementary school to tutor a third grader in math. I am a huge theater geek, and love watching movies, seeing plays, and performing in them. Over the sum... [more]

I attend Brown University and am currently working towards a degree in Biomedical Engineering. I have tutored privately since I was in high school and have continued into college. I specialize in tutoring Math, SAT, ACT, Chemistry, and Violin. I have a thorough understanding of math through Calculus II/Analytic Geometry, an understanding of chemistry up to organic chemistry, and performed extremely well on both the SAT and ACT. I also have played the violin for nine years and am available... [more]

I studied Chemical Engineering at Purdue University and Carnegie Mellon University. I earned my PhD at the latter where my research required heavy use of advanced mathematics. Along the way, I also earned a Masters of Science in Colloids, Polymers, and Surfaces. So I have a solid understanding of general chemistry and the basics of organic chemistry. During my studies, I tutored undergraduate students in mathematics. I also taught a few classes on advanced fluid dynamics (when my advisor n... [more]

I have two bachelor's degrees, one in Applied Mathematics and one in Earth Science. I am currently attending Brown university to obtain a PhD in Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences with a focus in oceanography. For mathematics, my strengths are in calculus, linear algebra and ODE/PDE. For earth science, I generally focus on global climate and weather as well as physical oceanography. My experience in these courses has been developed by research I have completed at Harvard University... [more]

I like to help students solve each individual Math problem, and don't mind going through the problems step by step. I try to give illustrations when possible, and help students to understand how a rule might apply to a given problem. I want to make myself available to whoever can use my help. I want to help students understand why certain rules apply in solving algebra, pre-calculus, calculus, or trigonometry problems. As far as experience, I worked for my college as a math tutor while sti... [more]
