My teaching style has developed into anyone can learn math. The catch to this is finding a way to reach all the different learning styles and thought processes of the students. I have had to adapt to the group of students in each class to help them to get the most of the course. I have tried in my variety of course from developmental math to statistics and calculus to reach different learning styles. I use different colors of markers to illustrate different steps in solving problems to help ... [more]

I'm currently an instructor at Virginia Tech and have spent the last three years here teaching Calculus I-III as well as Differential Equations. As to my background: In 2009, I received a Bachelor's in Mathematics from Buffalo State College and was certified to teach 7-12th grade Mathematics from 2010-2015. I adapt my tutoring methods based on needs of the individual child. I decided to get into part time tutoring after having good success with my own 8th and 9th grade daughters. I have worked with them at home to achieve straight A's in a variety of mathematical categories. I am available after 6:00 p.m most week days and weekends on an as-needed basis. You can contact me for further details. I have Bachelors degrees in engineering and accounting. I have a strong background of mathematica... [more]

I tutored high school students for 2 years in math and science. Trigonometry was part of the math section. As a PhD in Engineering, it will be worthwhile to mention that I not only value education, but also understand that hard work pays off in achieving goals in your life. I have experience educating undergrad and grad students towards completion of their studies. I also had opportunity to tutor high school students during my grad school years in math, chemistry and biology. It was a pleasure teaching high school students and guiding them to improve their grades during school year as well a [more]

From an early age I have had a love of mathematics and problem solving. I always knew I would pursue a career in mathematics. After obtaining a B.S. in mathematics with a minor in computer science from Lynchburg College, I completed a M.A. in mathematics from Wake Forest University with additional work in computer science. Fate pushed me into education, where I fell in love with teaching. The first five years of my career was spent teaching college. From there I was fortunate to land my c... [more]

As an engineer I use trigonometry all the time and have also helped many students master these skills. Trig is a very important topic to know and is a gateway to understanding higher math. If you are serious about this subject and hire me to help you, you will gain strong competency in this area. Math, Physics and Engineering are my main areas and I have a solid record of success helping students as a tutor. Most have improved by two grade points. Recently, I earned a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech and won an award from ASME for my dissertation work. I am patient, [more]

Nearly 100 hours of WyzAnt tutoring has been provided to Salem & Blacksburg High School students on "trig" principles. RU MATH 138 has been another popular class. Our trigonometry sessions will impart a "down-to-earth", visual sense of how triangles work. Trig functions are used to "see" vectors and simple harmonic motion. Trigonometry is all about "triangles simplified." Would you like to be able to "see" the three sides and three angles of any triangle without using a calculator or table of values? This can be done mentally under a minute. Given two sides and an angle, or two angles and [more]
