I have taught Trigonometry for the past 4 years and, whenever possible, try to make it more fun and interesting by connecting the math concepts to real-world applications. Trigonometry is more challenging than Algebra 1 and follows Geometry so in order to receive a top grade in the class, I always tell my students to spend twice as much time on their studies and to review foundational concepts such as combining fractions, operations with negatives and factoring polynomials as often as possible. I am an experienced math tutor with three years experience tutoring calculus and one year tutoring algebra. I've received all A's in my math classes in school. I also received a perfect score on the trigonometry proficiency exam on WyzAnt. Background I?ve always had a passion for teaching and working with young people, and I want to share my love for math and science with others. I believe that students can learn difficult concepts best in a one on one environment. The student?s aptitude will improve from exposure to my years of experience in both academics and industry. I have quite a bit of experience as a teacher, tutor, and trainer in a variety of areas. Through high school and college I was a math tutor and have been tutoring professionally for the past two years around 70 hours each week while my fiancee attends graduate school. I have worked with at least 10 different students in all major mathematics classes starting with Algebra through Advanced Calculus. I work with many college students at Stanford or Santa Clara University during the day, and meet... [more]

My passion for teaching was founded by my own experience as a student. Throughout my academic career, the challenges I encountered refined my own approach to understanding subjects, and the ensuing success after overcoming such obstacles brought me further love for learning and those subjects. I want to transmit that feeling of accomplishment to students as they master their own subjects, and hopefully foster a passion for further learning and success in any of their other endeavors. As a to... [more]

I have been teaching the basics of mathematics, including Geometry, Algebra I, Algebra II, and Trigonometry, for the past 15 years. During that time, I have taught hundreds of students, from children and teens to young adults, to understand that math is how the real world works. Anyone who can function in the real world can learn to master math. In fact, the concepts are so closely related to everyday life that many students actually understand the basics of math already. I was the principal instructor for a major test preparation company for a number of years, and I am certified to teach test [more]

Update, September 10: I tutor on Saturdays only. I can accept one more student in the early afternoon, between 1:30 PM and 4:30 PM. I prefer sessions 90 minutes to 2 hours in length. Thanks. ---------- I'm a graduate of Berkeley (B.A., biochemistry) and Stanford (Ph.D., immunology). So, which side should I sit on at the Big Game? I currently work as a Core Faculty member and Research Scientist at a local university. I have been a college-level teaching assistant. I have tutored many st... [more]

For the past several years, I have taught the pre-calculus sequence to high school students and college students alike. In the past, I have also taught this sequence at CSULA several times. My students normally wind up with good grades in their classes and are VERY WELL PREPARED for calculus. My education in mathematics includes a BS in math and 90 units in graduate level pure and applied mathematics. Hi, my name is James. I am an experienced, patient, and personable tutor of science, mathematics, software, and technology. Science: I have had the pleasure of serving as a high school scien [more]

I have been tutoring all levels of math for over 7 years now. I really enjoy math as a subject, and try to impart the fundamental concepts of math rather than trying to just teach the algorithms. Math really should be about understanding the logic behind it and less about route processes (we have computers for that). A bit about me. I currently do tutoring and statistical consulting full time. I worked at a Fortune 500 tech company for almost 2 years (doing math and statistics) but really e... [more]
