I get a lot of experience and keep up to speed with students in the Wake Tech Individualized Learning Centers who are working on calculus.

I earned my BS in Chemistry at University of Arizona and tutor a lot of students in my job as a tutor at Wake Tech. I like to help students discover the wonders of chemistry and be able to make sense of all of the nuances typically found in a chemistry course.

I use Excel, especially formulas and even some VBA macros and Pivot Tables/Charts to help analyze data in my work and when evaluating personal finances, purchases, stock and options strategies. I have tutored for over ten years and even tutored a sales manager for a top US pharma company to get the most out of Excel when analyzing their sales team's performance.

Ear Training

My high school Choir teacher introduced me to Ear Training. She passed on the 'tricks' she had learned in her MFA program to recognize intervals. I have been fascinated with apps/computer software for mastering this skill and am always evaluating the latest releases. I love teaching and especially love teaching skills that I love and the tools that can be used to teach ear training.


Elementary (K-6th)

I had quite a bit of experience as a tutor at Sylvan helping children in this age group, mostly with math and science type of questions, but I am also very good with all other subjects encountered (other than foreign languages) in elementary school. I love working with children and they seem to enjoy me and get a lot of benefit from our sessions.


General Computer

I've been using computers since ~1979, and have built my own computers since before there were Pentium chips :) I can help you learn most any software, and can help you become expert in Microsoft Word styles, macros, mail merge, tables, graphs, etc.; Excel formula creation, Powerpoint, including animations, and Outlook productivity enhancements. Also, I can get you started with Google Docs/Apps, Google Analytics, Gmail, etc. or I can help you find free alternatives to expensive apps like Photoshop.


General Music

I sing, play guitar, bass and mandolin. I enjoy a wide range of musical genres, and love learning and teaching things that help me gain an appreciation of music. I offer insights and tools for learning more about music. I am always evaluating the the latest musical apps and technology for learning and enjoying music, and love to share that knowledge with others.


Guitar

I started playing guitar in the 70's and have been mostly self taught, with some private lessons, lots of method books, and lately lots of video. I focus on teaching good physical technique to avoid bad habits, which can cause injuries or pain. I also teach good practice habits, help with self-discipline, and guide students in their lessons so that they see continual progress in their playing. I encourage creativity and help develop listening skills. My primary genres are rock, blues (including acoustic/country blues), jazz and folk. Influences include: Robert Johnson, Rev. I have taught Study Skills while working at Sylvan, as well as being exposed to the latest techniques in adapting to Learning Styles in my position at Wake Tech. I will work with you to develop a system to get the most out of your study time.


Microsoft Outlook

I have used Outlook for years to keep my worklife organized. I take advantage of Rules, Advanced Search, LinkPoint for Salesforce.com, VBA Macros, and I can show you how you can reduce the size of your inbox and reduce duplicate files on your system. I regularly use Outlook Appointments, including the Scheduler,and take advantage of hyperlinks and formatting, and take advantage of custom Signatures for different email scenarios.


Microsoft Windows

I have been a Windows user since Windows 3.1 (at least), and I am always looking for ways to make it work for me in the most intuitive way. I keep up on the latest 'hacks' and love to share insights on how to make Windows do what I need/want it to do. I can offer ideas on backing up data, sharing files, remote usage, etc.
