I really enjoy helping students reach their goals. Your goal may be "getting" math. Or doing better on a hard test than you ever have before. Or improving your English. Piano-playing is also a joy -- as much for you to learn as for me to teach. Let me help you learn better by making the most of your strengths and overcoming your weaknesses. We set up a plan just for you. You can measure your success along the way. You may need to meet twice weekly, or only for a few se... [more]

Hi, there! I love tutoring young learners in reading, writing, arithmetic and other subjects, including music. I'm certified in elementary math and science (and a whole bunch of other subjects) and have tutored and taught from elementary through graduate school. MORE DETAIL: I have tutored elementary students for many years, starting when I was in 7th grade. It's how I found out I was a good teacher! I especially enjoy teaching K-6 English reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics. When I became a classroom teacher, I taught middle school through high school (CT) and college through graduate school (CT, TX, VA, MD, WA, CA) in World History, Latin, Greek, Classics in Translation, Freshman Science, Mythology, Political Science, World Literature, English, English as a Second Language, and Philosophy. The breadth of my teaching reflects my interest in all the general education subjects first encountered in elementary school. Learning to love learning starts there! Happy new year! Diane
Hi, there! I love tutoring music -- have played and sung for over 40 years, and have tutored piano, flute, and sight singing. I play classical and popular piano, have accompanied instrumentalists and vocalists, and have sung in choirs and choruses--and still do! BTW, I'm certified in sight singing and piano. MORE DETAIL: I played flute in band and orchestra from gradeschool through highschool , getting top ratings in many contests (New York State--I was known as "the general" for all my medals ;-). Ditto for piano, but continued studying classical piano with prof at Uof Texas Austin in Rome, Italy, and in Seattle, WA (total about 20 years). Accompanied instrumentalists and vocalists (at Yale University; at St. John's College in Annapolis; and in several churches). Sang in Methodist choirs (MD, CA) and currently in Gold Coast Community Chorus (Ventura, CA). Happy new year! Diane
I teach ESL to students of all ages and backgrounds--as I did at Ventura College. My TESL Certificate (Teaching English as a Second Language)is from UC Santa Barbara. PLUS I've been in your shoes--I learned Spanish and other European languages as a non-native speaker. I've also coached foreign students to pass the TOEFL exam.
I've taught from middle school through graduate school, have multiple degrees and have taken UMPTEEN tests! I passed the CBEST at a very high level -- and can teach you the tricks!
Let me help you prepare test-taking techniques for the TEAS V - Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English and Language Usage. My students do really well! We review the basics and then practice test-taking, to maximize your scores and minimize your anxiety. I help students excel on the TEAS and many other entrance exams, like the SAT, CLAST, CBEST, LSAT, GRE, ASVAB, TEAS, and GMAT.
I enjoy helping students excel social studies--reading books with skill, getting a grip on the basic facts, and writing essays with facility. Tutoring gives you the advantage of building just the skills you need. Social studies has been a big part of my student and teaching careers, from high school through graduate students. I love it! (Cornell B.A. major was Political Science; U. of Chicago M.A., Ph.D. specialty area was social and political philosophy; and I've taught ancient through modern history and political science).
M.A. and Ph.D. in Classical Languages and Literatures (ancient Attic Greek, Biblical koine Greek, and Latin languages and literatures)
