I work regularly with nursing and pre-nursing students in Microbiology courses. I find this material fascinating, and love to help students organize this complex class in a manner that makes it easier for them to study and master the material!
Elementary Education is extremely important. This is the time when students learn the basic skills that will set up the rest of their education. I have worked with Elementary (k-6) students in Math, Reading, Writing, Phonics and Spelling. I evaluate students specific weaknesses and create a customized lesson plan. This makes learning not only fun and interesting, but also targets the areas each student needs most, and avoids wasting precious time where they are not struggling. I love working with Elementary students because they are at their learning peak, and they grow right in front of my eyes!
School support (or study skills) is one of my very favorite types of tutoring! The foundation of a students success is based on these skills, and it is imperative that students acquire and sharpen them. Study skills include taking effective notes, organizing information, completing tasks and assignments on time, and maintaining a healthy study schedule. As a school support tutor, I work with students to stay on schedule, complete work accurately and on time, and retain information. I help students in the specific areas they are struggling academically, as well as monitoring their overall progress and instilling healthy and efficient study habits. It never ceases to amaze me how much more students enjoy school (and even homework) when they are organized, and know how to stay on track!
I work regularly with all levels and subjects tested on the ISEE. The structure of the ISEE requires not only subject knowledge, but also advanced critical reasoning and test taking strategy. I work with my ISEE students on understanding the format of the exams, and developing a strategy specific to each section. As we work through these strategies together, I am able to identify specific areas where they may need to strengthen their knowledge or skill. When I notice an area that needs improvement, I provide structured instruction and practice to ensure that they can proceed accurately. Studying for the ISEE also provides a wonderful platform for students to advance their study skills, organization, and critical thinking!
I am a nursing/pre-nursing tutor with extensive experience in nursing Pharmacology. A strong understanding of Pharmacology is not only essential to making it through nursing school- but is also the single biggest aspect of a nurse?s day to day career. Pharmacology is the most failed class in nursing school, and is one of the most stressful classes nursing students take. Pharmacology classes move very quickly and require memorization of hundreds of little details. My aim as a Pharmacology tutor is to help my students understand the broad concepts and how they fit together, making it easier to apply and remember the material. In addition to addressing questions and frustrations as they arise in class, I work with students on developing a thorough understanding of the following concepts: *What is the nursing process for giving medication, and how can it be streamlined so that you do not have to memorize a new process every time you learn a new drug? *What are the big groups of drugs, and why are they grouped the way they are? *What is a ?mechanism of action? (this is the specific physiology of how a medication affects the body), and how can we streamline our understanding of these mechanisms to make them easier to remember and adapt drug to drug? *Dosage calculations, IV drip calculations, reconstitution solution equations
I am a full time nursing and prenursing tutor and spend the majority of my time tutoring the TEAS and HESI exams. For the past 11 years, I have studied every aspect of the TEAS exam, adapting my TEAS/HESI program to be accurate in every aspect of the exam. My TEAS/HESI program involves a combination of live online classes and private tutoring. Classes focus on the ?lecture-heavy? aspects of material. Preparing for these exams begins with intensive lectures focused on key aspects of material. After completing a particular class, students are able to review their notes and practice material to determine areas where they need more help or clarification. This then allows us to spend our private lesson time zoning into these specific areas of concern, rather than spending most of our time on overviews and lectures. Classes are billed at a discounted rate versus private tutoring.
The Math section of the ACT Exam is extremely complex, as it involves material from multiple different math subject areas. I focus my ACT Math lessons on two things: 1) completing the problems on the page and ensuring an understanding of necessary steps to complete for each type of problem. 2) rebuilding essential fundamental skills that make up the problems, ensuring students have all necessary skill sets to execute more complicated problems Developing fundamental and advanced skill sets for execution of the ACT leads to improved test scores, as well as a more comprehensive understanding in current math classes.
