Unfortunately, grammar is no longer emphasized in most schools. Therefore, many people struggle with it, and are unfamiliar with the most common grammatical terminology, as well as how to put together a sentence. Having studied other languages in depth, my grasp of English grammar has deepened, and I feel that I have a great deal to offer my students. I have always loved grammar, and am determined to find creative ways to show my students how proper grammar can help them improve their writing skills.
It gives me great pleasure to transmit a love of writing to my students. I enjoy crafting short stories, essays, memoirs and poems. Once my students have learned the basics of proper grammar, syntax, spelling and composition, they realize what a wonderful creative outlet writing can be, in addition to being an absolute necessity for school and in the current highly-competitive job market. I teach students at all levels (elementary school, middle school, high school, and college students, in addition to adults who are returning to school or merely wish to improve their writing skills.) I am also specialized in helping high school students write their personal essays for their college applications. Many people struggle with writing, and it is extremely rewarding for me to help each and every one of my students overcome their difficulties and achieve their goals.
I love grammar and spelling, and I spend much of my spare time playing online competitive Scrabble, as well as reading an eclectic assortment of books. Nothing pleases me more than teaching English to both native and non-native speakers, and watching them make progress in leaps and bounds. Since grammar and spelling are often left by the wayside in our schools, I am more than happy to fill in the gaps for my students. I have taught English as a Second Language and English as a Foreign Language for a total of 17 years. I do feel that English as a First Language is underrated. No subject is more important. Without knowing how to express oneself in proper English, how can anybody succeed in life? Excellent language arts skills are fundamental for all content areas, as well as for every profession under the sun. Tutoring English is incredibly gratifying for me as a professional teacher. I especially like studying different approaches, according to my students' individual learning styles and abilities, in order to help them succeed.

I have always loved spelling since I was a child, and pride myself on the fact that I never resort to computerized spelling programs when writing! By teaching my students the origin of words and why they are spelled a certain way (in addition to using spelling games to make my tutoring sessions more fun), my students quickly overcome their struggles with spelling in a fun and engaging manner.
I taught English to Italians for nine years while living in Italy. I taught English as a Foreign Language to groups of elementary and middle school students. I also taught high school and college students, as well as adults. My adult students were from all walks of life. I have been teaching English to English Language Learners of all ages in the Chicago metro area for the past seven years. My students have come from a variety of countries, including Chile, Brazil, Mexico, Spain, Italy, Poland, Russia, China, Japan, Korea, and Thailand. Having lived in another country for many years helps me identify with my students. I know what it feels like to find oneself struggling to comprehend a different country, culture, and language.
