I am a twelve year resident of Mystic, CT. I was born and raised in Fairfield, CT and attended Lauralton Hall for a classical college prep education. I completed a BS in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech and then went to work with IBM. During my tenure there, I studied for, and completed, a Master's degree, also in Mechanical Engineering. My work has involved various areas of machine design, computer simulation, and system and process optimization (a lot of Math!). I love Math, a... [more]
As an engineer, I use Math - in all its forms - on an everyday basis. I have studied advanced Maths, and applied them through my Masters level Engineering classes. My qualification tests for WyzAnt Maths were all perfect scores. PreCalculus is an introduction to some of the advanced Calculus topics of derivatives and rate change. I am confident that - with my teaching skills and experience with the more advanced subject matter, that I am qualified to tutor pre Calculus.
While I have taught and tutored adults, college level and HS subjects, I am also well qualified to teach K-6, specifically math, language arts and science. I have worked with youngsters, aged 5 through 12 on math, reading, physical science, and swimming. I am well versed in the subject matter, of course, but also have a great deal of experience with the age group. I've specifically tutored in 2nd grade math, 4th grade math, 6th grade math, K and 2nd grade science, and K and 3rd grade reading, as some examples. I am very patient and relate well to the different development phases of this age group. I have taught swimming to over 500 children, aged 6 through 12, over the last few years!
As a mechanical engineer, I am a proficient user of various softwares and computer platforms. I worked for IBM for 18 years, using a variety of their software applications - including Lotus Notes, VMWare, WebSphere, and engineering application software like ANSYS, CATIA Elfini, ABAQUS, and ENOVIA. I have also used (and debugged) the AIX software set. In my daily engineering work, I use extensively Microsoft products such as EXCEL, WORD, and POWERPOINT. I have set up new computers, loaded (and debugged) software applications and user tools, such as Skype, virus protection and Media software. I have installed (and debugged!) many peripheral components, such as printers, wireless pointers, hard drives, recording devices, etc. While I am not Microsoft certified, I have managed my own suite of computers and software tools for many years. My computer knowledge is general and quite current. I scored 100% on both the Word and Excel tests, completing each in less than 2 minutes.
I have already tutored several students in this topic, with great success! The Math is rarely beyond Algebra 1 and Geometry and I am highly qualified in those and every Math beyond. The English section is no different from the SAT English - a subject in which I am both highly qualified and deeply experienced. The TEAS Science section is a general round up of life sciences, all of which I have taken and a few of which I also regularly tutor in (Physics, Biology, and Chemistry). I am scheduled to teach a classroom TEAS Prep course, locally, in May, for 18 potential nursing students.
