String and brass instruments, theory, composition

I've been a professional musician my whole life, and have been teaching for most of that time. I perform on electric and upright bass, guitar, mandolin, cornet, valve trombone, and tuba. I've been all around the world playing music, recorded, and taught both privately and in public schools. I specialize in jazz and American roots music, but I can work with rockers or just about anybody else. I can tell you what you want to know. Give it a shot!... [more]

Music Theory

Ear Training

I have perfect pitch, and tested out of the ear training program at Westfield State College. I have several years' experience giving ear training lessons to public school students.

General Music

As a student teacher, I taught elementary general music for several months in the public schools of Westfield, MA. I led students in singing and rhythm exercises, gave lessons in both European and American music history, and led students through simple music-theater pieces.

I have performed and taught guitar for twenty years. Though self-taught as a technician, I read guitar music fluently and know the fretboard thoroughly. My specialties are blues, jazz, rock, fingerstyle, and alternate tunings. I have taught many guitar students both privately and as a school band director.

I perform on the valve and slide trombone; I took basic classes in all brass instruments at Westfield State College, and have taught trombonists as a band director.

I have performed on, and taught, the trumpet for fifteen years. It is currently my principal instrument as a professional (I actually use a cornet or flugelhorn most of the time). I took two semesters of trumpet lessons at Westfield State College.I have taught many trumpet students both privately as and as a school band director.I play with the Riverboat Jazz Band out of Albany, NY.
