I have been certified by the State of Michigan in all subjects K through 5, and I also have an endorsement in 6th-8th Grades in both Language Arts and Social Sciences and which is valid until the year 2016.
I have taught General Music in Garden City for over nine years. In that class I have taught the history of music as well as the composers of their different periods. We do a lot of listening to their music and discuss how it is the same and then different in each era of music. I took all my Music Classes at Marygrove College and Madonna University and I am certified in all subjects K to 5. I also teach Piano, Cello, and Violin. I also teach a little of the theory behind the music that they learn in each era.
I have been teaching piano in Garden City Public Schools for the past seven years.
I graduated from Wayne State University in December of 1999 with a Masters in Education with an emphasis in English as a Second Language, and I taught as an Adjunct Professor at Madonna University in the ESL Department for a year. I taught mostly Grammar and Reading Skills to the ESL Students there.
I have been teaching Sign Language for the Deaf for over 30 years and I Sign the Music in my Church when Deaf individuals are there. I start teaching the ABC'S in Sign Language first, and then move on to easy phrases such as: Please, Thank You, Your Welcome, Yes, No, Numbers one to ten, and then the colors such as Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Purple, White, Black and Brown. We then move on to food, and rooms in your house then directions from one place to another. I request that if anyone wants to take Sign Language from me to come with another person so they can practice together. I then put all of the Sign Language to music so they don't forget it. They also learn to Sign some simple songs that they can sing in church.
I have studied Ballet, Tap, Point, Musical Comedy and Jazz from a teacher in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for over 20 years, and received both my Normal Course and Post Graduate Award from her and her studio in 1972 and 1973 In the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We had to know the French Vocabulary for all the steps and all the theories behind each method of ballet such as Ballanchine, Checketti and the Royal Danish types of dance. We also had to know how to teach each age group from Pre-School to Adult, and any problems they would encounter in each age group. We had to know all the barre exercises, center floor adagio exercises, combinations and steps across the floor. I have also run dance studios in Pennsylvania and Michigan for over 30 years.
I am certified by the State of Michigan and Wayne State University to teach all subjects K to 5th Grades. I have taught for the Archdioese of Detroit for the past 15 years, and in that time have taught Grades 2nd through 8th Grades and taught their Reading Program as well. Most students have their problems in critical thinking as well as comprehension and that is what I focus on mostly. Along with that they work on decoding skills as well as vocabulary skills. I have had a lot of success doing it this way. I would appreciate it if the students could come here since my car is down at this point and I have no way to get to them.
