Experienced Science and Math Tutor

I graduated from Texas Woman's University (TWU), in December 2013 with my Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry with an American Chemical Society Certification. August of 2015, I received my Master of Science degree in Chemistry also from Texas Woman's University. For my undergrad degree, I graduated with a 3.76 GPA in all of my Chemistry and Math courses, a 3.46 overall and graduated with a 3.9 for my Master degree. While I completed my Bachelors degree, I worked as a tutor on campu... [more]

Algebra 1

Math came alive for me when I got to algebra. It finally all started to make sense. Algebra is where the foundation has been dried and is finally ready to begin the building process. It is so important to gain a strong understanding of math at this point. Almost every math course I have taken since algebra, relied heavily on algebra as its backbone. Learning to study for math in an organized fashion was my saving grace. It has allowed me to fully understand where I started and where I finished, and am able to go back and review work that I have already done in order to gain a better understanding of where I am going. I will be waiting, with much anticipation, for your email and the chance we will have to meet.

Chemistry

I graduated December 2013 with my Bachelors of Science degree in Biochemistry and graduated with my Masters in Chemistry August of 2015. During my undergraduate career, I worked as a science tutor in the Science Learning Resource Center on campus (3 yrs) and also worked as a TA teaching chemistry and biochemistry labs. I am currently teaching Chemistry at Texas Woman's University.

Biochemistry

I have a bachelor's degree in biochemistry and a master's in chemistry with a focus on biochemistry. As an Undergrad taking Biochemistry I and II, I received an A in both semesters with an average of around 97 both semesters. I also received an A in the laboratory course. As a grad student I took both semesters of Advanced Biochemistry and earned an A in both semesters.

ADHD

Having someone to talk to about problems that arise in school and life in general due to learning disabilities and ADHD/ADD, helps so that students can learn how to overcome these obstacles. However, if the listener has not experienced these same obstacles, then the student may be left feeling misunderstood. I was diagnosed with ADHD/ADD at 15 and have dealt with the burden of having learning disabilities such as dyslexia, test anxiety, and anxiety throughout an entire course, making completion of that particular course difficult. At times in the past these disabilities have made it hard for me to remember information for my tests, there have been some occasions that because of my disabilities, I have read questions and got the meaning of them completely backwards, and then realized it the moment I left the testing site. These are only a few of the obstacles that I have had to overcome in order to learn and be successful in school. I have learned to study in a certain way, to not procrastinate (this one keeps me from getting overwhelmed, I am able to study better and produce much better results!), and I have also learned to ask for the help I need in order to be successful! While, being a student with LD's and ADHD makes for a hard road at times, it also makes for a sweeter victory when you reach the finish line; and a greater sense of accomplishment. I will help my students to figure out what is best for their learning style, and figure out what their possible triggers are, what they can do to get more out of their study time, and will be someone who the student can talk to. With me they will know that they are safe and that they are talking with someone who knows and understands what they are going through.

Organic Chemistry

I completed both semesters of organic with an "A," as well as, receiving an "A" in both semesters of lab. I am currently teaching organic lab on the TWU campus this summer (2016). I find organic chemistry, fun and exciting, interesting, and generally enjoy tutoring organic. Most people get through organic by memorization... I am not one of those people! Memorization has always been a weakness of mine. So instead, I learned to figure out how and why certain products are formed in organic. Because of learning in this manner, I have retained the material and am able to figure out the answer to more problems because I have learned what causes certain reactions to occur. I look forward to working with you, and hopefully passing on my enthusiasm for organic, on to you.
