I love teaching: language, writing, reading, and public speaking!

I have been working with students one-on-one and in small groups in both the private and public school sectors for more than 10 years. I have a master's degree in education and a two-year degree in speech-language pathology assisting. I teach to each student's individual educational needs. Phonics

I have been a certified Speech Language Pathology Assistant/Educator for 10 years. I know how important understanding the sounds of individual letters and letter combinations is to successful literacy development.

Study Skills

I worked at a private clinic assisting children and teens with learning disabilities, ADHD, and those with special needs having academic challenges for 8+ years. I presented various study skill techniques such as graphic organizers, the SQRW (survey, question, read, write) method, and other strategies (categorizing, rhyming, acronyms, index cards, etc). I also provided strategies for memory/recall so the student learns how to retain the information and not just hold onto it until test time.

Special Needs

I have worked with students with special needs in public schools and the private sector. I have specific experience with: autism (verbal & non-verbal), Down syndrome, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, and global learning disabilities. I have integrated augmentative communication, focus/memory exercises, and adapted academic materials to improve access and increase success.

Dyslexia

After I was diagnosed with Dyslexia 16 years ago, I attended a 6-day intensive dyslexia workshop. I learned many different methods and strategies to help me and other students improve: organization, focus, and, and attention to detail. I have worked with students with Dyslexia for more than 10 years using visual, movement, and auditory strategies to help increase enjoyment and success in their academics.

Speech

I have a 2-year degree in speech language pathology assisting. I am a certified SLPA in the state of Washington. I have been working as an SLPA and educator for 11+ years in both the public schools and private practice arenas.
