I have found that making learning a fun experience increases the student's rate of progress, which is a direct indicator of success. For math, I use a hands-on approach and the Touch Math system. The students that I have taught and tutored enjoyed using manipulatives as a learning tool. They consistently demonstrated increased motivation and confidence in their skills and achieved higher grades.
I have a Bachelor's Degree from Queens College in Elementary Education.
As an undergraduate, I earned a BA degree in Elementary Education. Phonics and reading were a major component leading up to the degree. I have also participated in and completed a district-wide phonics program provided by the Clark County School District.

In February of 2010, I completed a 15 hour course in Explicit Phonics. This course was given by the Clark County School District in Las Vegas, NV. This course was specifically designed for teachers who had English Language Learners/English as a Second Language students in their classes.
As a Learning Specialist at The Children?s Hospital in Colorado, I presented departmental in-services on teaching strategies for children with ADD/ADHD. I served on the educational panel at the Rosenberry Conference, providing expertise to national cross-disciplinary mental health and educational professionals on instructional methodologies for children with Asperger?s Syndrome.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
As a Learning Specialist at The Children?s Hospital in Colorado, I taught children and adolescents with Autism and consulted in the development of educational assessments and strategies for a special unit-based day treatment program for PDD spectrum diagnoses. In addition, I provided documentation and training for staff. In Nevada, I taught in a KIDS program (children 3-5 with Autism) and participated in trainings and staff development in-services specific to learning and behavior strategies for students with Autism.
I hold a Master's degree in Special Education (concentration in learning disabilities) from Hunter College in New York City. One of the courses in the curriculm focused on specific strategies, adaptations, and modifications that were developed for teaching students with dyslexia.
