Elementary Math

I am certified in MG Math [4-9], SpEd Math P-12, and General Curriculum [P-12] and I have taught and tutored both the traditional and common core MS and HS math sequence (GPS and GSE). I thoroughly enjoy helping my students discover, rediscover, and grow their understanding and enjoyment of all things mathematics whether I am supporting the little guys (and the not-so-little ones) as they are beginning their mathematical journey or taking it further with Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, or Geometry.

Elementary Science

I routinely collaborate with the science teachers at my son's elementary school and over time I have taken on several substitution assignment for them. In addition to this, I have been a volunteer with their education programs at the GA aquarium since 2006 and I'm very familiar with the GA science curriculum at the elementary level as well as with aligned enrichment activities that go with it.

Elementary (K-6th)

I completed graduate work in Teaching Methods, Exceptional Learners, Educational Technologies, Applied Linguistics, Language Acquisition, and Multicultural Education, I am trained in the literacy and numeralcy curriculum Learning Without Tears (formerly Handwriting Without Tears) and in the mathematics curriculum Everyday Mathematics. In addition to this, I am certified to teach my content areas (Math and Science) to the general education students, English learners (sheltered, push in, pull out models), and exceptional students (general curriculum, science P-12, math P-9 co-taught, small group, self contained special education to students experiencing learning differences to gifted and talented students).

Study Skills

I am a former school teacher and current sub and tutor in our local public and private schools. I am a neurobiologist by training but, a few years back, I returned to school to complete graduate work in Teaching Methods, Exeptional Learners, Educational Technologies, Applied Linguistics, Language Acquisition, and Multicultural Education [UGA, Graduate Certificate in Science Education, +30 Grad. C.Hrs] and English Learners Endorsement [+12 CEU/Grad level]. I am certified to teach my content areas (Math, Science, Italian, English, Spanish) in the General Education, ELL, and Exceptional Education settings (think beyond the old fashioned SpEd and envision the kind of services that one would want to offer to all students profiles: from struggling to students experiencing learning differences, to gifted & talented students that might need extra help/support with executive function, study skills, organisation skills, routine development, enrichment, and of course individualised instruction for subject specific content.) In addition to this, I am trained in the literacy and numeralcy curriculum Learning Without Tears (formerly Handwriting Without Tears) and in the mathematics curriculum Everyday Mathematics. contained special education for struggling, ). While I have been tutoring through WyzAnt since 2013, I have 20 years of experience with students from a variety of backgrounds and competencies and I over this time I have found my passion is zeroing in on the most important component of a thriving academic experience, whether a student has acquired sufficient/successful study skills to benefit from our time together and, if that's not the case, help them identify the strategies that will most help him/her study/learn the content on hand as well as transfer to their future applications.

Special Needs

I completed graduate work in Teaching Methods, Exceptional Learners, Educational Technologies, Applied Linguistics, Language Acquisition, and Multicultural Education, I am trained in the literacy and numeralcy curriculum Learning Without Tears (formerly Handwriting Without Tears), and I am certified to teach special education general curriculum, science P-12, math P-9.

Zoology

The combination of the content knowledge I acquired during my studies as a neurobiologist and my graduate work in Math & Science Education, Exceptional Education, and language acquisition have afforded me the unique ability to be able to provide my students with not only the content knowledge but also the tools necessary to identify and address their strengths, weaknesses, and needs so that they can face the academic demands with the content knowledge AND the confidence they need to be successful. The following is the coursework I completed that is relevant to tutoring Zoology students: Zoology, Animal Anatomy w lab, Animal Physiology w lab, Embryology, Ecology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Histology, Cytology, Microbiology, Bacteriology, Experimental Biology Lab 1 and 2. In addition to these, I also completed Gen & Inorg Chem w lab, Organic Chemistry with Lab, Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry, Physics 1 & 2 w lab, and math up to Calculus 2.

ADHD

I am a teacher certified in three areas of the SpEd Education field (general curriculum, math, and science). I am one year into a master of science in education (special education with focus on Science and reading instruction) and have done extensive training, reading, and applications on executive function (the cognitive skill/function that is impaired in people with ADD/ADHD). I also have twenty years of successfully teaching students of all abilities.

Dyslexia

I have been teaching and tutoring students for almost 20 years and, in order to better support the students who have been coming to me with Dyslexia and other learning differences, I have completed additional graduate level training in Exceptional Education, Language Acquisition, Developmental Psychology, as well as English, Math & Science Methods for vulnerable populations (Exeptional, ELL, At-Risk). In addition to this, I am trained in the handwriting curriculum "Handwriting w/o Tears", I taught myself the Orton-Gilligham Method for reading instruction of students with dyslexia, I regularly attend professional development workshops and classes in literacy instruction (both content and skill specific) lessons, I am currently enrolled in UGA's COE Graduate Program in Reading/Dyslexia. My experience and training have afforded me the unique ability to be able to provide my students with not only the content knowledge but also the tools necessary to identify and address their strengths, weaknesses, and needs so that they can face the growing academic demands placed on them with the confidence they need to be successful.

Genetics

The combination of the content knowledge I acquired during my studies as a neurobiologist and my graduate work in Math & Science Education, Exceptional Education, and language acquisition have afforded me the unique ability to be able to provide my students with their classes AND the tools necessary to identify and address their strengths, weaknesses, and needs so that they can face the academic demands with the content knowledge AND confidence they need to be successful. The following is the coursework I completed that is relevant to tutoring Genetcs students: Genetics, Molecular Biology, Histology, Cytology, Microbiology, Bacteriology, Anatomy w lab, Physiology, Embryology, Ecology, Experimental Biology Lab 1 and 2. In addition to these, I also completed Gen & Inorg Chem w lab, Organic Chemist with Lab, Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry, Physics 1 & 2 w lab, and math up to Calculus 2.

TEAS

As a neurobiologist by training and a teacher for passion, I returned to university to complete additional graduate work in Science, Math, ESOL, exceptional students education: this combination has afforded me not only the foundational knowledge to successfully prepare my students for the nursing (and other Health Care Professions) entrance exams but has also provided me with the tools necessary to identify and address their strengths, weaknesses, and needs so that they can face this professional milestone with the content AND confidence they need to be successful. The following is the coursework I completed that is relevant to the scope of the TEAS Exam: Citology, Histology, Gen & Inorganic Chem 1 & 2 w lab, Organic Chem 1 & 2 w lab, Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry, Anatomy w lab, Physiology, Embriology, Microbiology, Bacteriology, Mathematics up to Calculus 2, Physics 1 & 2, Molecular Biology, Human Genetics, Experimental Biology Lab 1 and 2.

Handwriting

I have been teaching and tutoring students in Handwriting development since 2008: I have been teaching and tutoring for almost 20 years and, since 2008 (when I completed my training in the Handwriting without tears curriculum, chaired my son's school handwriting program, and trained our parents volunteers) teaching handwriting has been one my passions and successful endeavours. In addition to conducting handwriting lessons, I completed additional graduate work in Exceptional Education and language acquisition (and I am currently enrolled in UGA's COE Graduate Program in Reading/Dyslexia . My experience and training have afforded me the unique ability to be able to provide my students with not only the content knowledge but also the tools necessary to identify and address their strengths, weaknesses, and needs so that they can face the growing academic demands placed on them with the confidence they need to be successful.
