Algebra 1

As Math Resource Teacher for 2 years, I tutored students who are challenged in Algebra so they can pass the SOL. The key to learning at this level is a strong foundation in Basic Math. Reading and comprehension skills also support success at this level. Showing examples and working hands on is one of the best approaches to mastery.


Vocabulary

My teaching license was K-6. I was an elementary grades teacher for 4 years. Vocabulary building is an important part of reading and comprehension and is emphasized in the elementary level. I have tutored students in the after school program for reading and vocabulary building.


Grammar

My teaching license was K-6. I was an elementary grades teacher for 4 years, and grammar is an essential component of English language instruction. I have also tutored students to improve their grammar and excel in writing and speaking.


Prealgebra

I was a Math Resource Teacher for 2 years in the Middle School and have taught pre-Algebra and Algebra courses. I have also tutored students in Algebra and Pre-algebra in high school and college levels for over 4 years. Some of the students I have worked with were planning to get into nursing programs and this subject is a requirement.


Reading

Writing

My teaching license was K-6. I was an elementary grades teacher for 4 years, and Writing is an essential component of English language instruction. In the higher level, I have helped students complete college researches or master's thesis. All these are proof of writing skills.


English

My teaching license was K-6. I was an elementary grades teacher for 4 years, and English is a major course of study. I have tutored students in English from elementary to high school. I have also tutored conversational English to adult students to help them in school or business.


Psychology

I have a master's degree in Guidance and Counseling. I have taught college courses in General Psychology, Business Psychology, Developmental Psychology, and School Counseling. I have tutored college students in Psychology and all passed the subject.


Nursing

I am a Licensed Practical Nurse, and am working towards my RN program. I have helped 4 students to become successful nurses. I have tutored TEAS, Nursing Math, and other nursing preparatory courses. I have taken and passed my licensure on the first take.


Spelling

My teaching license was K-6. I was an elementary grades teacher for 4 years, and Spelling is an essential component of English language instruction. Spelling is an essential tool to improving vocabulary and eventually, comprehension.


Elementary Math

I am a licensed k-6 teacher. I've been an elementary grades teacher for 4 years, and 3 years as a math and reading tutor with another tutoring company. I was a Math resource teacher for 2 years in the Middle school.


Elementary (K-6th)

I teach all subjects K-6 which include: math, reading, language, science, civics and social studies. I am certified to teach K-6 in the State of Virginia.


Study Skills

This subject covers academic, emotional, and psychological preparation in test taking. Students will be taught how to identify key words that will enable them to choose the correct response. They will also be taught how to read between the lines in order to comprehend, improve vocabulary, and ultimately succeed in formal written tests. As a teacher and tutor, teaching students study skills is part of the job. As a school counselor (MEd in Counseling) who makes, administers, and scores tests, teaching/helping/coaching students to successfully hurdle the test is second nature. Having successfully passed numerous professional tests, the firsthand experience comes in handy.


ESL/ESOL

Students will be taught formal English in reading, speaking, and writing. The goal is to enable speakers of other languages to understand and communicate in English. As an experienced Elementary Grades Teacher, I have taught the basics of the English language to different groups and varied grade levels. This teacher will be able to formally or informally assess the current level of each student and teach based on student needs. This teacher has taught and written three (3) ESL workbooks, which proved to be an effective tool in learning English as a Second Language.


SOL

My teaching license was K-6, and I taught elementary school for four years. I am also an academic coach for grades 6-10. Most of the teachings I do is helping students pass the SOLs - from 3rd grade to 10th grade.


TEAS

I took TEAS to enter nursing school 6 years ago. I scored very well and completed Practical Nursing in 14 months. I passed my licensure and became an LPN on the first take. TEAS covers English Grammar and Comprehension, Science and Math. I have helped 4 other aspirants to successfully get into the nursing program - RN or LPN.


Nutrition

Nutrition is a subject for everyone but it is more specialized in the collegiate level. The student will be taught the essential body functions, the essential vitamins and minerals that the body needs, the 3 basic food groups, the ways to assess food consumption in relation to healthy lifestyles and general well-being. This teacher is a licensed nurse who has practiced a healthy lifestyle and has taught it in single or group settings. As a nurse, I know that nutrition is important in the healing process and general health.
