I currently teach ESL at nights for "USA English Audiovisual School," in Plainfield, NJ. This gives me little time to tutor for Wyzant. But it does mean that I am very good at teaching English. Most of my experience has been tutoring statistics for graduate students enrolled in non statistics programs. I learned what I know the hard way, and understand frustration many people have. All my tutoring experiences have been for classes with an integrated statistical computation element. Thi... [more]

SAS

I started programming in SAS in 1998 and have programmed in SAS since then. I have a Masters in Statistics from DePaul University where SAS was used. At one time I also had the Base SAS certificate (version 8). I have done research using SAS. (16 years experience with modules Base and Stats).

Actuarial Science

I successfully completed exams 100 and 110 a number of years ago and these have been converted to credit for COURSE1 which gives me a conversion credit for exam P. Exam P is the very first exam and covers probability. So, based on the fact I have passed exams 100 and 110, and those convert to Exam P, I should be able to help people with exam P. Exam P is only the first exam in the list of requirements given by the Society of Actuaries for certification.

Biostatistics

I have formal university training in statistics. This includes a masters degree in Statistics from the DePaul University Mathematics department in 1993. I also studied in a doctoral program at Northern Illinois University for three years. Coursework included Bio-statistics and the statistical methods studied include linear regression, survival models, random effects, repeated measures, longitudinal models and case control studies. I have work experience as a statistical programmer and statistician. This includes 6 years working in health services research for the Veterans Health Administration. I have also analyzed health outcomes for a few pharmaceutical companies. I have tutoring experience. I have tutored a number of people taking research methods classes for their nursing, marketing or psychology programs. These were all practical knowledge classes where the student learned descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, linear regression, survival models and case/control methods. I am proficient with modern software. I have years of experience using SAS, R, and SPSS. I also have a limited experience using STATA.

Mathematica

Mathematica is a symbolic and numerical system that uses functional programming concepts. I have a masters in Statistics, so I have used Mathematica for a variety of mathematical uses in my own education. I have also used Mathematica to teach Calculus I and II at a University. I used Mathematica to create illustrations I then projected them for the class to see. This helped me explain mathematical concepts. I have also read books on the programming style using in Mathematica applications.
