As a professor of English, possessing an M.A. in English, I have a relatively extensive vocabulary and encourage vocabulary building in my own students by presenting them with new terms during lecture/class times, in reading experiences and in the use of a thesaurus and/or dictionary with their writing assignments.
I have always had a natural knack for grammar and mechanics, being considered lovingly as a bit of a "grammar-Nazi". Having an M.A. in English, with a particular interest and natural ability in writing makes me more proficient in grammar than the average person. Additionally, teaching and correcting grammar is naturally a part of my job as a composition professor.
I often use MS Word to create various types of word documents for personal and professional use. I used MS Word throughout my academic career, for essays and Master' theses, and now use it professionally as an adjunct professor of English to create agendas and other documents for instructional use. I feel confident in my ability to use and teach others to use MS Word.
As an adjunct professor of English and volunteer public relations representative for a non-profit organization, I often use PowerPoint to enhance lessons and create presentations to inform the public on the services provided by the non-profit organization. I am highly proficient in using PowerPoint to create presentations complete with music, special effects/animations, video, pictures, etc. I feel confident in my ability to use PowerPoint as an instructional tool.
From a very young age, my mother fostered in me a love for reading. As a child, I routinely participated in Reading is Fundamental. As an adult, I majored in English in college and obtained an M.A. in English and am now committed to encouraging my students to read, teaching them that reading can be fun and interesting, instructing students in ways to break down large words and learn new meanings, and developing better writers through continued reading practice.

My preferred genre of literature is post-apocalyptic fiction, but I am also well-versed in Shakespeare, American, British and Russian literature, and selected literature for K-12 curriculum. Unlike many of my peers in high school and undergraduate college, I actually read most of the assigned literature and am well-positioned to provide informed feedback on the literature that many teachers assign.

I am proficient in Art History, having successfully completed two Art History courses and frequently using Art History during classroom instruction. I feel confident that I can instruct / tutor Art History (paintings, sculptures, specific artists, and time period). I am particularly interested in the work of Degas, Michelangelo, Monet, Delacroix, Van Gogh, Dali, Picasso, Pollock and Warhol, to name a few. As both a PC (Personal Computer) and Apple iPad user, I am relatively proficient in the usage of both of these technologies. I regularly use Windows applications on my laptop, as well as MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. For my classroom instruction, I regularly use technology, including, but not limited to, PowerPoint and Word and use Excel to create grading and attendance spreadsheets. I feel confident in my ability to teach basic computer applications.
As a graduate student in the English program, I took three graduate film courses, earning an A in each course. I have also subsequently utilized film adaptation, intertextuality and theory in my Master's thesis.
