From Music to Math to English and Science and back again

"The ideal individual has a balance between gymnastics and music." Plato said this in his famous work, The Republic. Elementary (K-6th)

I taught in the Magnolia School district in Anaheim, California for seven years. In that time, I was utilized as a substitute for special assignments, long-term assignments, intervention programs, and music assignments. They placed me in classes from K - 6. I instituted music programs at two elementary schools - Mission Meadows Elementary, Vista, CA and El Morro Elementary, Laguna Beach, CA.

Phonics

In my tenure as an instructor for the Magnolia School District in Anaheim, California, I was part of many in-services designed to improve reading skills for students at all levels. Among the many aspects of reading that were covered in training, phonics was included. The subject of phonic instruction included its introduction to very young learners (kindergarten) to older readers who needed additional help.

Study Skills

As both teacher and student, I have had to demonstrate and employ solid study habits to achieve superior results. As a teacher, I have seen what works well for my students and that which does not. Each student has strengths and weaknesses to overcome. As such, it is my responsibility to find the methods that work best for each student. As a student, I know what has worked for me. I will share those strategies with my students. Again, everyone is different. So, while these study skills may have worked well for me, they may not always work well for others. But, it does give one a starting point from where to begin to develop study skills and strategies.
