Math/Science/ASVAB/AFOQT Tutor/Coach

If you are challenged in math, I can help! I have a unique method of combining the "real world" with the "theoretical world" of mathematics in a way that is interesting, understandable and sometimes even FUN! I have tutored young people of all ages in a multitude of subjects to include math, science and art. I know you are looking for someone who treats others with the respect and dignity that they deserve; this is my top priority and I try to keep "the BIG PICTURE" in mind at all times. ... [more]

Violin

I studied under Edmund Weingart, then concertmaster for the Oakland Symphony Orchestra from 1967 to 1973 and was one of the earlier students exposed to the Suzuki teaching method for violin. As a member of the award-winning El Cerrito High School orchestra, I performed in many venues to include musicals and live performances as assistant concertmaster. I enjoy great music and would love to introduce new musicians to the beautiful sounds of the violin, a magnificent instrument!

Civil Engineering

I have a BS in Civil Engineering from UC Berkeley, with emphasis in geotechnical engineering (Tau Beta Pi recipient). I have practical experience in project scheduling for JA Jones Construction Company (1977-1978) working on nuclear waste vitrification and plant construction. I like to present students with real-world examples that makes their learning more meaningful- not just going through the motions to pass an exam. I was an instructor pilot and flight examiner in the Air Force and with a major airline, so I know something about teaching and learning and what motivates people. I am currently tutoring a student in his graduate on-line construction engineering course and am receiving very positive feedback from him regarding our tutoring sessions.

AFOQT

The AFOQT (Air Force Officer Qualifying Test) is an aptitude test given to prospective Air Force officer candidates. It is similar to the SAT and ACT tests, with an emphasis in technical/aviation related subjects. As a 23-year veteran of the Air Force and Air Force Reserve and a retired Lt Col, I can help prepare a student for this exam. I am a command pilot with over 13,000 hours of flying time (military and civilian combined) and have the expertise that can assist you in achieving your goals.
