I have my degree in Elementary Education (K-6) and I have tutored for many years in grades K-6. I am certified in teaching children K-6. I have my license in Indiana and am in the process of getting it valid in Michigan as well.
I learned many phonics assessments and also how to teach it while in college. I also have taught phonics while tutoring as well as while substitute teaching.
Most of the children I tutor right now are also working on Study Skills. I have taught them ways of organizing their work and thoughts. Also, certain methods to use for studying.
I have worked with children with special needs for years, from children with autism to moderate needs. I have worked with cognitive impaired and more. I also have my minor in Special Education.
I have known sign language for over 20 years now. I was also a sign language interpreter for a few years. I try and use my sign language when possible. My brother-in-law is deaf and we use it so I can practice.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
I have worked with several children who have autism and have been all through the spectrum. I have worked in a classroom with children who are autistic and also have my degree in Special Education. I have also been a nanny for over 10 years and have worked with several children who are autistic and had to come up with creative ways for them to learn.
Hard of Hearing
I worked for over 2 years with children who were hard of hearing or deaf. I have known sign language for over 20 years. I also was a sign language interpreter.
I was required to take the Praxis and so I know the things to study for and look for when taking the Education Praxis. I passed the Praxis and also a few different subjects.
I have worked with children who have speech problems for a long time, especially since I was a sign language interpreter. I have also worked closely with speech therapists because I have been a nanny for over 11 years and have worked with mostly children who have special needs.
I have worked with students in K-6 on Social Studies while tutoring them. I am current on most of the curriculum. While student teaching I was responsible for coming up with lessons for Social Studies. Also, I have my teaching license for K-6 and have materials at home that I can use for Social Studies.
