I am good with kids and I like math. Need I say more? My name is Toby (the girl version) and I graduated from Syracuse University (magna cum laude) with a BFA in Acting and a minor in English. And I know what you are thinking... A BFA? But a degree like that takes a lot of dedication, hard work, and importantly passion. I have a lot of passion; and, incidentally a lot of child care experience because I love working with kids. I have been a babysitter, a nanny, a camp counselor, and, of cour... [more]
I am Canadian and a writer. These two things greatly impact my familiarity with grammar. I have been tutoring grammar for the last year and have an innate sense of when and how sentences go astray.
I have been tutoring math for the last year. I'm really good with numbers and can work backwards from the incorrect answer to find where the child went wrong. I think math is fun and often doodle algebraic equations.
I have been tutoring elementary school for the last year through a private company. I specialize in math and English, making it fun but also informative. I have been known to use pop culture as part of my teaching (as example figures or number) to make the work easier to relate to and more real. I also specialize in children, having been a camp counselor for many years. I understand that for most, school isn't exciting and incorporate games into my teaching.
I graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting Magna Cum Laude in 2012. There, I became a teaching assistant for the Introduction to Theater Classes. In this position, I graded quizzes, lead tutorials and acted as bridge between other students and the professors. I also became the Study Group coordinator for the Theater Development classes where I organized study groups, taught study skills and created and conceptualized study plans. As a tutor, I am skilled at creating programs and teaching strategies to fit the needs of my students, and I am always willing to work with their school teachers and parents, if necessary, to accommodate special circumstances that will maximize the students? learning experiences.

I have been dancing ballet for 20 years, choreographing for ten years and teaching for five years. I completed my ISTD Ballet Syllabus training to the Advanced Two Level and have been teaching ever since. I specialize in technique and can also teach Pointe. Whether you need help with barre, including plies, tondues or pordebra, or allegro in the center, or petite battery, I can help.
In college as part of my Acting degree, we had to take a fitness component. Here we learned the importance of stretching, focusing of different muscles groups and how to make work outs fun. As part of my dance classes, I have been leading fitness workouts for a few years now specifically focusing on the muscles needed to dance or for a particular activity. It is important to use the appropriate muscles properly (including stretches, warm up and cool down). I also know how to make fitness fun and utilize parks and the outdoors.
