Elementary (K-6th)

For the vast majority of my 40-plus years as an educator, I worked with K-8 students in MA. I taught all subjects over the course of that time plus I coordinated numerous after school activities and clubs which involved reading and language and science discovery and math. Once a week I tutored students in any subject area that they were having difficulty. I received teacher of the year from my colleagues in 1999 and teacher fo the year in the education of students with hearing loss from the state of MA. I have both written and/or coordinated curricula in all elementary school subjects.

Phonics

In all the work that I have done with students with hearing loss over a 40+ year time span, each day phonics was incorporated into my lessons. In helping them to learn to read, write and talk, coding and decoding are essential skills for these chidlren. Also, I have attended numerous professional development workshops and received professional development credits on the topic of phonics as part of my recertification process. Finally, in order to have effectivley worked with children who have hearing loss, phonics was an integral part of their daily curricula.

Hard of Hearing

For the vast majority of my 40-plus years as an educator, I worked with K-8 students at the Clarke School for the Deaf in MA. While there I taught all subjects over the course of that time plus I coordinated numerous after school activities and clubs which involved reading and language and science di9scovery and math. Once a week I tutored students that they were having difficulty in any aspect of the curriculum. I also served as principal of the middle school at Clarke and coordinated a summer program for children with hearing loss. I received teacher of the year from my colleagues in 1999 and teacher of the year in the education of students with hearing loss from the state of MA. I have both written and/or coordinated curricula in all elementary school subjects and written and lectured nationally and internationally on topics pertinent to the education of students with hearing loss.
