I must admit, Algebra is one of my favorite subjects. I truly enjoy helping others in this foundational material. I work hard to make Algebra comprehensible, memorable, and interesting. There is no reason a student of mine should not gain a better grade. Incidentally, I have passed the rigorous CSET math sections I & II, which includes Algebra and more advanced math as well.
Yes, yes. English Grammar is a problem for many of us. If you are troubled by goofy grammatical guidelines then you are not alone! I recall a change in my attitude toward grammar when I came to understand that it is all about communicating well with people. Grammar is about honoring people and ideas. I would love the privilege of working with you. We can focus on your grammar weaknesses or on some writing project on which you are working. Either way, I would like to help.
My computing experience dates back to the Commodore-64, purchased at Toys-R-Us. I now use laptops, desktops, and tablets with Windows, Apple, and Android operating systems. My home has a WLAN connecting printers, TV, and computers to each other and the internet. If only some of what I've mentioned above makes sense, don't fret. I enjoy making things understandable. After all, I've had to grow in my knowledge from essentially a glorified toy computer to my present devices. It had to make sense to me, so I like making it sensible to others as well. Let me know if I can help you with patience and effectiveness.

I've tutored many kids in math. Having been a substitute teacher in the classroom and having passed the CSET for math levels 1 & 2 most of my tutoring students are among the kids I've gotten to know in the classroom, are referred by other parents, or who just see me working with another student. I like to make our times both fun and productive.
I enjoy teaching the careful analysis of reading material. Knowing various literary techniques and styles brings a greater enjoyment of the intention of an author. Reading is the primary key to self-teaching and delight directed learning. Let me know if I can help.
English can either be a great bore or the gateway to learning. I recall as a college freshman the day I had a life altering epiphany. I realized for the first time that English is not really about reading the works of long dead writers. It is even less about sloshing through obscure grammatical rules. I realized that English is about caring for people. We care for others by understanding their speech and writing; communicating our ideas clearly; and using grammar that prevents confusion. What a concept! This great insight has fueled my desire to master and help others master English. Can I help you? Oh yes... I passed freshman English with an "A" and have since gained a Master's degree in oratory and instructional communication.
I've worked for Princeton Review as an SAT instructor. My local school district hired me to put together and teach SAT prep. I've privately tutored the SAT math & verbal sections. I passed the teacher's CSET I & II sections that go far beyond the SAT basics. I'll run you through practice tests and focus on improving your weaknesses and using your strengths. I'll train you in the key test taking talents. Let's work together to optimize your SAT math score.

I have an emergency teacher's credential which includes K-6. In that capacity I've taught all subjects both individually and in the classroom. I enjoy young kids and like to make our learning experience fun and effective. Teachers I've subbed for ask me back time and again. The students who know me get excited to know I'm to be their sub teacher. We cover the material and have a good time. Even the parents are pleased to know I'm their child's substitute teacher.
I teach music for all ages. I cover music concepts, a variety of instruments, and even playing along with others. I have taught music classes to grade schoolers at the request of their teachers. My students learned the recorder and ocarina. We also worked on theory and singing as I accompanied with my guitar. I make music with guitar, ukulele, bass, recorder, voice and a little piano--though it is full sized! ;) My goal is to make music accessible and fun. Let me know if I can help you have fun with music.
I've played guitar, bass, ukulele since the dinosaurs walked the earth. I am conversant with up to intermediate skills of chord theory & patterns, picking styles, rythyms, accompaniment, transposition, ensemble work...
I use the SOAR methodology for 3rd through 12th grade. With this I cover goal settings, the learning styles, and relative and unique strengths of the student. We work on organizing a binder, places to study, and time management by means of a planner. Finally, study and note taking strategies are learned. I generally prefer to use about 10 to 12 hours of instruction.
I have current experience coaching essay writing. This is the main skill needed for the CBEST Writing portion. I have current mathematics teaching for the areas of math on the CBEST. Also, I've passed the rigorous CSET Math 1 and 2 which covers the algebra, geometry, and other math on the CBEST. The Reading comprehension portion of the CBEST requires textual analysis. My Master's degree work contained a significant bulk of textual analysis and comprehension. Anecdotally, having passed the CBEST at my first try without the use of a guidebook or tutor and having been a substitute teacher of many subjects and grade levels now for over a decade I feel assured that I can effectively assist you with the CBEST as well as convey insights and teaching tips. Let me know if I can be of help.
