"We learn more by looking for the answer to a question and not finding it than we do from learning the answer itself." -Lloyd Alexander First, Wyzant is filled with exceptional tutors so it's pretty tough to go wrong on here! The art of tutoring is as diverse and unique as the individuals who undertake it. I know tutors who are subject area experts, able to effortlessly and expertly assist students in a select few areas. On the other hand you have tutors that are good at a variety of subje... [more]
Chemistry is the first science I tutored students in and my original major in College.(I would go on to minor in it). I'm highly skilled in regular, honors, and AP Chemistry for high school students. For college students, I'm able to skillfully tutor General Chemistry 1 and 2 as well as Organic Chemistry 1 and 2. I tutor Microbiology and Biochemistry on a case by case basis so please ask if you're interested in these subjects in particular.
I sincerely enjoy tutoring students for the GED, as it's one of the first subjects I started tutoring. I love the challenge of preparing non-traditional students as this is one of the few subjects that requires constant shifting of tutoring styles to find a perfect medium for both tutor and student. I've successfully tutored many students in their GED pursuits as well. As long as the student arrives prepared, committed each session I promise to give 110% to help you succeed.
I've helped several students ace the ASVAB test, particularly the Math section. I believe in working with harder Math material so that the actual test will be much more manageable. My students have all achieved above the minimum AFQT score for their respective military branch, which is crucial now that the military has become more selective. Achieving the minimum score may result in delays as applicants with much higher scores will be given preference.
I have experience teaching and cultivating study skills. I'm able to adapt and find the best study method that works for each individual student as well. Methods differ between subjects as well and I'm great at finding ways to help people retain information that best suits their learning style. When I worked in the UNLV tutoring center, I worked with many student athletes that had erratic or nonexistent study skills, which was the primary reason they weren't able to retain the information rather than a simple inability to understand it.
College Counseling is absolutely crucial for parents wise enough to seek this out for their children. I've counseled 8 students now through the college application process and they've been accepted to universities such as UNLV, UNR, San Diego State, Oregon State, University of Oregon, and Marquette University. I've also helped students with the scholarship process, which is both extensive and intensive.
I have experience helping regents students pass their proficiency tests. I've successfully tutored students for the Science and Math portions of the proficiency. I also achieved high scores on the NV proficiency myself as a CCSD student.
I have the necessary background to successfully help students succeed on the TEAS! I've taken the MCAT exam twice (received a 23 the first attempt and a 29 on the second attempt) and there is a strong correlation between the 2 tests. MCAT verbal section is extremely challenging, mirroring the reading and paragraph comprehension as well as the English section on the TEAS. MCAT Physical and Biological sciences also mirrors the Science section on the TEAS. I've tutored Math up to Calculus I, so I'm definitely prepared to tutor the TEAS math section. Lastly, I've helped a TEAS student before as she needed a certain score to enter the nursing program at CSN(I believe it was 80% in reading and 60% in the other sections)
