Mathematical concepts have always come easy to me. It is a talent I was born with and enjoyed every subject from arithmetic, to geometry and trig, algebra and calculus, linear algebra and real analysis. It was an easy transition to computer science. My career took me from database programming to web development and continues to evolve. I have found that the most common problem a student has with any higher mathematical concept is a building block that was missing or overlooked. My responsibi... [more]
My BS degree in Computer Science required me to take an upper level Discrete Math course. I have used discrete math in my work including probabilities, set theory, and tree structures. I have also tutored discrete math at the College of Alameda.
I have received a BS degree in Computer Science from San Francisco State University. Course work included the study and use of Fortran, Cobol, Lisp, Pascal, and Assembly. Throughout my career I have used many languages in business. These include Assembly Language, Fortran, Visual Basic, C++, and PHP. I have developed programs involving database programming, data entry forms, and complex mathematical calculations.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. I have also spent 30 years as a computer programmer/analyst. I was incorporated as a business in contract application development and have contracted with several financial corporations including Visa,USA, Citicorp, and Pac Bell (now AT&T). I currently maintain several servers on the internet including a Web Site, and a cloud service.
I received a BS degree in Computer Science at San Francisco State University. All basic programming course work used Fortran as the language. Further, my first 8 years employed as a computer programmer I used Fortran as the primary programming language. The programs I wrote involved actuary science theories and pension plan maintenance.
During my time at San Francisco State University I took several courses in Linear Algebra including an upper level class. Since I have been tutoring at the College of Alameda I have had several chances to refresh my understanding of the subject. I feel I am very comfortable with the subject.
I have been using Linux for many years as a client as well as a server. I currently maintain a web server, a mySQL server, and a virtual machine. Maintenance includes installation and upgrading systems, backups, networking, printer setups, and shell scripting. I have passed the Linux Professional Institute's Linux Certification examination Part 1 and expect to complete Part 2 shortly.
Having a BS in Computer Science gives me a solid basics in all programming languages. My entire career has been involved with database development. I am secure with most applications that use a database substructure from Paradox, Foxpro, Transaction SQL, and MS Access. Several applications I have developed were based entirely on Access.
In my thirty years as a database programmer I have used Microsoft Windows exclusively. Many jobs required me to install Windows. I am familiar with all versions from Windows '95 to Windows 8.
I have been developing web sites using PHP for 10 years. I use PHP in conjunction with MySQL to create database applications. Since I have been tutoring I have helped several students in their PHP programming classes.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. I have had several projects with Visa, USA that involved Visual Basic programming. This included manipulating Microsoft Office applications as well as MS-SQL database programs.
