I have worked with students of all ages on phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency and comprehension. I have been trained in the Lindamood-Bell system to achieve these goals. Reading is one of my favorite things to do (professionally and in my spare time). I delight in helping others discover the magic of reading well.
I have taught English and composition at the college level since 2007. These have been basic classes which focus on fundamental writing skills. For younger students, I have provided individual tutoring in phonemic awareness (elementary-middle school students) and high-school language arts and ACT/SAT prep.
I have worked with Adobe Photoshop since 2001, learning short-cuts and tricks from the best when I studied graphic design. I still use Photoshop regularly for my own artwork, to document and edit images to display online. Unlike many computer teachers, I don't "do it in front of you" and expect you to learn. I ask you to sit at keyboard and I talk you through it slowly: allowing time for you to process the steps, take notes and learn from mistakes.
I have 6 years of experience teaching SAT Reading and Writing sections. I will show you the tricks to score higher and have fun while you're doing it. As a college professor, I am very familiar with the skills necessary to succeed in college, so I can also offer realistic perspective on what you should continue working on even after you take the test.

I have worked in academia for the last 6 years as an Academic Support Specialist and as a faculty member. In these roles I have assisted students as they compose personal statements and application packets.
I have spent the last decade tutoring many adults with ADD in a writing support center at JFK University. I also have experience with ADHD children (ages 6-8) through my experience teaching at Lindamood-Bell Reading Center. I understand the need for frequent breaks, minimized distraction, and a positive attitude.
