My experience and style: ESL: Teacher of English and Spanish as a Second Language Math: Elementary, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II, Geometry I have been teaching professionally for over 9 years. I have been teaching as a volunteer for over 20 years. I have been trained in 28 effective teaching methods. I determine the methods to use by first determining the student preferred learning style. He may be a visual learner, an auditory learner, a tactile learner, or a kinetic learner. He may ne... [more]
I am trained, and have experience with Hooked on Phonics at all levels, including Master Reader. I have tutored many students with this wonderful program.
Here's the Study Skills included: 1. Developing and maintaining a healthy attitude toward school and learning. 2. Developing a positive attitude toward the student's abilities. 3. Developing and maintaining good study skills including: time management, creating a positive study area, setting priorities with homework, developing a plan of action with homework, pacing and confidence.
I have already passed all three sections of CBEST, including reading, writing, and math. I have and am currently teaching advanced placement math.
Here are a few of the topics I could cover in Algebra: Solving Equation Solving Inequalities Graphing and Functions systems Linear Equations and their Graphs Exponents Polynomials and Factoring Quadratics Equations Roots and Radical Expressions and Equations
6TH GRADE MATH: Ratios and Proportional Relationships Understand ratio concepts and use ratio reasoning to solve problems. The Number System Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division to divide fractions by fractions. Multiply and divide multi-digit numbers and find common factors and multiples. Apply and extend previous understandings of numbers to the system of rational numbers. Expressions and Equations Apply and extend previous understandings of arithmetic to algebraic expressions. Reason about and solve one-variable equations and inequalities. Represent and analyze quantitative relationships between dependent and independent variables. Geometry Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, surface area, and volume. Statistics and Probability Develop understanding of statistical variability. Summarize and describe distributions. Mathematical Practices 1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. 2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively. 3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. 4. Model with mathematics. 5. Use appropriate tools strategically. 6. Attend to precision. 7. Bachelor's in Education Advanced Certificate in Teaching English as Second Language Teaching since 2004
I have a Bachelors degree in Education specializing in teaching English and Spanish as Second language. I have worked for Kaiser teaching the medical staff Spanish. As well as tutoring private clients.
With Oxford University's ESL program I will help the beginner, intermediate or advanced English student. We will not only learn reading, writing but speaking. Each lesson will include active engagement with the student. The student will learn from effective teaching methods based on the student's preferred learning style.
