B.A. In Analytic Philosophy with English minor concentration from SUNY Albany. Prior experience tutoring secondary students in English specifically SAT verbal prep and NY ELA curriculum. Most importantly I seek to foster a love of language in each student and promote confidence in vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension, and writing.
In more than ten years of tutoring at the high school, vocational, and undergraduate college level I have closely observed and applied evidence based study/test preparations methods and approaches. In the course of obtaining a B.A. in Logic/Analytical Philosophy at the University at Albany I studied the foundations of knowledge and the science of education. Having worked with high school students, nurses, and college undergraduates I have seen firsthand methods of confidence building, organization, and test taking strategy that work across all fields.
I have been a volunteer coach/ youth mentor for preschool through high school students including those with special needs including but not limited to ADHD/ autism/ dyslexia. Additionally, I work as an LPN serving a population of developmentally disabled and special needs adults. I am currently a student at Excelsior college and my degree program includes instruction in special needs and therapeutic communication.
I am a 2011 graduate of OU Boces Full Time LPN program with a 93 GPA (transcripts available on request. I passed my NCLEX with the minimum number of questions on my first attempt and am currently studying the same core study areas required of prospective LPN NCLEX canidates on a more advanced level as a AS RN student at Excelsior College ( anticipated graduation August 2014)I also hold a B.A. in Analytical Philosophy from the University at Albany( transcript available on request). I work full time as an LPN in a hospital and a LTC clinical settings. I also volunteer as a youth sports coach at the YMCA which has given me practical experience in teaching and leadership. Additionally I have tutored many friends and colleagues to success on the NCLEX. My approach is to individualize a study plan to each student focusing our time and energy on areas in need of improvement and to emphasize proven NCLEX general test strategies to build confidence and assure success on test day.
I have worked more than 4 years as a nurse with Developmentally disabled/ learning disabled youth an adult populations. I am an experienced patient tutor. I also have worked as a volunteer soccer coach and "pee wee learning & fitness" instructor for more than 3 years working with children and teenagers including add/add. As a licensed nurse I have received education in the etiology of ADD/ADHD as well as therapeutic modalities.
As a currently practicing LPN in subacute setting with medication administration as primary job responsibility I am thoroughly familiar with principles of pharmacology, safe practice guidelines, and current medication classification. I work on a daily basis with a wide range of medications and perform dosage calculation and interact with pharmacists each work day. Also, I received 97 average in pharmacology in the OU BOCES LPN program, and scored 100% on the pharmacy calculation exam. I recently completed several RN level courses with emphasis on pharmacology.I also currently study and review pharmacology as I am preparing to take my NCLEX RN in August 2013. I am confident I can provide a suitable framework and individualized study plan that will ensure success with any student in an LPN or Associate level pharmacology class, test-out, specific exam, or NCLEX preparation.
