My name is Sr. Maria and I am a hermit. My previous name was Diana, so most of my reviews use that name. Hermits spend most of their days in prayer, but they need to support themselves, and I support myself through tutoring. I have 6 years experience teaching high school mathematics - algebra 1, algebra 2 and geometry - in a classroom setting and held certification to teach mathematics in the State of Virginia from 2007 to 2012. I also have 2 years experience teaching high school chemistry. ... [more]
I have three years experience teaching algebra 1 in a classroom setting. I have also tutored many students in pre-algebra, algebra 1, algebra 2, and SAT prep (which involves a good deal of algebra) over the past six years. Finally, I reviewed and retaught many algebra 1 skills with my geometry students during the five years that I taught geometry.
I taught algebra 2 in a classroom for one year and have tutored algebra 2 (and precalculus which uses much of the same knowledge and skills) for the past five years. I also taught algebra 1, the prerequisite for algebra 2, for three years and have been tutoring in it for the past six years. I have a good ability to explain the algebra 2 subject matter to students.
I taught high school chemistry for 2 years, which included regular and honors chemistry and a chemistry 2 course for seniors. I also have been tutoring in chemistry for five years. My educational background is in civil and environmental engineering which included a good number of chemistry courses in college. I do not tutor AP chemistry at this time.
I have five years experience teaching high school geometry. I also taught an algebra 2 class which had an integrated geometry curriculum component. I have tutored many students in geometry over the past six years and have also tutored many students in SAT and ACT prep both of which include geometry.
I have six years experience in home schooling and tutoring in pre-algebra. Also, since the skills taught in pre-algebra are then used in all later math courses, the six years I have spent teaching algebra 1 & 2 and geometry in a classroom and the five years I have spent tutoring those subjects have also contributed to my knowledge and ability to explain the concepts of pre-algebra.
I have tutored precalculus for the past four years. Much of the material in precalculus is also covered (but in less depth) in algebra 2 - and I have tutored a good number of students in algebra 2 over the past five years. I seem to have a good ability to explain harder concepts in a way that makes sense and that makes it seem easy (at least that is what I have been told).
I have tutored many students in math SAT prep (and math PSAT prep) over the past six years. So at this point, I am very familiar with the questions and the types of problems students have. I also have 6 years of experience teaching algebra 1, algebra 2 and geometry - 3 of the main subject areas on the SAT math test - and have been tutoring in algebra 1 and 2, geometry, and other material that is on the SAT math test for the past six years.
I have six years experience in tutoring students on the math portion of the SAT and PSAT. The PSAT math section includes the same material as the SAT math section without some of the more advanced math concepts. I also have three years of algebra teaching experience, one year of algebra 2 teaching experience, and five years of geometry teaching experience and have been tutoring in these subjects for the past six years, all of which is the content on the PSAT. I am available to help students with the math portion of the PSAT only.
I have tutored students in the ACT test - math and science portions - for the past 5 years. In addition, I taught algebra 1 for three years, algebra 2 for one year, and geometry for five years - three of the main subjects on the math portion of the ACT test. I have also tutored in algebra 1 & 2, geometry, pre-calculus, and SAT math prep for the past six years all of which gives me more knowledge and experience to share with my students.
I have tutored students in the math and science portions of the ACT for the past five years. I also taught chemistry for two years and have been tutoring it for five years, and taught geology and astronomy each for one semester. My major in college was in civil/environmental engineering so I have a strong background in science.
I have three years experience preparing students for the Algebra 1 SOL and five years experience preparing students for the Geometry SOL and I have the same number of years experience teaching those subjects. I have also tutored in algebra 1 and geometry for the past five years. Finally, I have prepared many students for the SAT/PSAT over the past five years, which is another standardized test that requires algebra and geometry knowledge.
