Vocabulary

As a legal professional, my stock and trade for the past sixteen years has been my ability to successfully utilize the English language to accomplish the goals set by my clients, who have included county governments and individuals and businesses. My legal work, both oral and written, has lead to considerable success in both state and federal courts, before administrative tribunals, as well as the North Carolina Court of Appeals. This work has enabled me to offer students extensive expertise in gaining rhetorical skills, understanding key vocabulary, and in understanding the mechanics of effective persuasive and expository writing.

Grammar

As a legal professional, my stock and trade for the past sixteen years has been my ability to successfully utilize the English language to accomplish the goals set by my clients, who have included county governments and individuals and businesses. My legal work, both oral and written, has lead to considerable success in both state and federal courts, before administrative tribunals, as well as the North Carolina Court of Appeals, success which is dependent upon the proper use of grammar. Additionally, as a published author of a legal publication that is published annually by an international publisher, I regularly edit supplementary text for each year's new publication. This work includes researching current legal developments and integrating these into an existing text, proofreading the text, assuring that proper grammar is used, and making necessary corrections before the text is sent on to the printer. I have undertaken such editing work annually for the past eleven years.

Government & Politics

For the past fourteen years, I have worked as an attorney for county government. In the course of this work, I have had extensive experience in law and policy on both the state and federal level, from administrative regulation to statutory and case law. My work also brings me in close proximity to individuals who work in all three branches of North Carolina government with whom I occasionally work on common problems, most recently work with the Hague and Vienna Conventions on Consular Relations. I also consult with the director of a county governmental agency to advise with regard to proposed legislation and an effective response to lawmakers before such legislation is enacted. I also advise with regard to the impact of new legislation on the agency. Additionally, I have worked as a staff member on a congressional campaign, and have been the president of several student grass roots political organizations.
